What's good on snow?

Looking for a pram/travel system that's good on snow. The Spawn will arrive at the start of a Swedish winter and I need something I can get out and about in through snow and ice (and the crushed rock they put over it here.)

The pram doesn't need to be very lightweight or foldable as we have house space and it's more important that it's warm and we can line it with the usual sheepskin etc.

But it would be good if the top bit came off to form a sleeping basket sort of thing... And it'd also be good if it could then turn into a pushchair that isn't the size of an SUV for when the kid is a bit older..

I'm guessing with the SUV comment you've ruled out Emmaljunga?

I'm not sure I've ever found anything that works on snow. Bugaboo do snow wheels for the Cameleon, I haven't tried them myself but they might be Ok.

Whatever you chose, it needs to have fairly BIG wheels, and not two small double wheels next to each-other, as the snow gets stuck in between the sets of wheels.

Surely if you are in Sweden it is better to just ask at your local pram shop?

What's the newest bugaboo - can't remember what it's called but looks like it would go over anything. Massive though!

I used to put my two boys into a sledge with high sides and pull them along. They loved it. (Actually it was a large plastic toy box - I made holes in one end and threaded thin, nylon rope through it - it slid along beautifully).

I can't imagine a buggy that would be good on snow TBH.

I have an UppababyVista that's not bad on snow.

It's quite a specific request though. I suspect most of the posters here are in the UK and just won't see the kind of snow you're talking about.

We don't have a car so our local pram shop (if indeed there is such a thing, I'm sure there is, I'll try out by IKEA....) is quite a way off and I work silly hours, so it's difficult to get out to the industrial estates :) we will have to do it at some point though... Maybe test drive some round the carpark...

The emmaljunga ones look quite nice, thanks! I will definitely check them out. It's just overwhelming seeing all the different types of pram and I'm a complete novice at all this!

Tip taken on the no dual wheels - I can imagine the grit and snow making that tough. Maybe they do cool studded tyres?

Think also that you're right about getting two separate ones... Blimey, babies are expensive!

3little frogs, that's the plan for when he's older! Lots of the kids in our village commute to kindergarten by sledge, it's adorable! Probably less fun on the way back up the hill though!

Mountain Buggy. Everytime. Lock the front wheel in the snow (or on sand or mud) and unlock it in shopping centres. Honest. It is brilliant.

Hold off on the light pram if poss till out of newborn state, u will have better choices. A sling will help!

Doesn't everyone in Sweden swear by the emmaljungas i was reading an article somewhere on how they leave prams outside cafés when they go in and use emmaljungas and sheepskins to keep the baby's warm
