Pushchairs

How do YOU look for pushchairs?

Howdy folks,

I work for an independent retailer and wanted to canvass opinion from you lovely people, who are actually likely to be buying pushchairs! I'm hoping this is the right section, although not about specific products, it's about how you go about finding them.

The main thing I want to know about, is how you all feel about the specific wording around pushchairs and how much it matters, and helps you find what you're looking for.

Without linking anything, as I don't want to be unduly advertising- our website's navigation uses a bunch of subcategories: Pushchairs, Travel Systems, Strollers, 3 Wheelers, Twins/Doubles/Triples...

Do these distinctions matter to you as a potential buyer?
It seems like from our perspective that it's really hard to pin down a universal definition for stroller or pushchair, and can't define a difference, and that's certainly the opinion I get from having browsed a number of forums and question services.

Would you find it confusing to find what you want with those categories if you don't have a product in mind? Would you struggle to know where a product is if you DID have one in mind?

All thoughts on this are hugely appreciated! Smile

Ok. I'm 16 weeks pregnant and am just starting to consider looking at the mind field that it's prams . I'm a total novice.

I clearly know what a twin or double is etc and a 3 wheeler is self explanatory. Travel system I presume means it's got a car seat adapter.

As for the rest, I look online then get fed up and stop. It's so confusing. I'd rather pick a new car.

I'd rather it said 'pram suitable for ages - to - has car seat adapter' that's all I want to know. The rest pickles my brain.

How do I shop? I intend on going into john Lewis and mother care etc, picking the assistants brains then looking online to see where I can get the best deal.

Hope that helps Smile

I think it's important to have a good categories / filter list, so eg I can see at a click just the pushchairs with:
3 / 4 wheels
Parent facing capability
Seperate handles / one handle
Car seat adapters available
Then maybe some others could be:
Weight under x kg
Car seat included
Carrycot included
Carrycot available
Small fold

Etc. I agree that these days there are not clear distinctions between strollers, pushchairs, prams, travel systems etc.

Good feedback, thank you.
I'm hoping to relatively do away with them, perhaps go for the ability to see all types of pushchairs, then if some sub categories are insisted upon, stick with easily agreeable ones- 3 wheels, twins/triples etc.

We do use a filter list within the subcategories, which I'm hoping to branch out and include more attributes akin to your list, Moggle!

I'm also hoping to introduce an "at a glance" graphics system to go over most of the crucial points for the actual product pages as well...

User friend is the name of the game!

Going purely by the questions people are asking on here the primary no compromise requirements are:

  1. Parent facing

  1. Suitable for terrain (recently both of these features together seem to be in demand)

  1. Particularly compact and light for holidays/busy urban use

People asking for advice who don't have particular models in mind appear to be looking for suggestions based upon these things. It is confusing fishing through the traditional categories 2 in 1, 3 in 1, travel systems, pushchairs, strollers, doubles, 3 wheelers etc.

I would categorise only by parent facing, forward facing, compact (ruthlessly sorted so that it genuinely only included very small and under 7kg options) and twin/tandem.Within those categories I would then put car seat or carrycot compatibility, packages etc. I wouldn't even bother with 3 or 4 wheels personally.

Id split them into
"Suitable from birth"
"Follow on strollers/pushchairs"
"Suitable for Multiples"

Means you and your customers can focus on the section that applies to them and dont feel overwhelmed by all the models. Id much rather just see all the ones that suit my newborn in one section to have a comparison/play with than have to move from the three wheel area to the four wheel area etc.

surely stroller and pushchair are synomyms?

Yes, they are. I put both words as some people use either. If I thought they had different meanings Id have written "Strollers and Pushchairs"

I was searching for a 4 wheeler, lightweight, with big wheels and reversible handle. The last one is hard to get on a pushchairs with big air/foam filled wheels. Just "parent facing" is not enough, as most pushchairs allow to place carrycot in parent facing position, while I wanted to do it with just the push of one button.
Ended up getting bugaboo.
