Help needed quickly! Double buggy for tall 2 year old and newborn due in 3 weeks!

Hi all,
Really hoping someone will be able to help, and I have a feeling this is going to be a long post! I need some help with my options, and my brain is literally running on fumes....

Ds turned 2 last week and has a lovely sleep in his buggy every afternoon - we go out most mornings and he usually falls asleep in recline on the way home, which works nicely. He's a good walker but we go too far for him to manage the whole journey.

He has been in a Mutsy since birth, which I love as I am tall and its great for me (& him). Mutsy do a duo seat, but the weight limitlimit is 33lb in both front and back seat, and ds's already 31lb so that's ruled that out.

A friend has lent me a Phil and teds sport, which I thought with the cocoon and everything would be great. However yesterday when we finally found all the bits and figured out how to put it together, then sat my 2 year old in it we realised that he's way too tall for the front seat which he'd have to sit in with a newborn in a cocoon. His head bangs on the bar, the hood won't go over his head, and there's no chance with the recline setting. The new baby can't go in the proper seat (when the 2 seats are swapped round, if you've got one you'll know what I mean) until 4 months old, but the 2 year old would fit in well in that configuration.

So basically should I look for a whole different pushchair (I think it will be tricky due to ds's size)? Dh says I should just use buggy and sling for first 4 months, but I think that would be a bit of a nightmare, e.g. where to put newborn when wrestling 2 year old into buggy at playgroup. I'm struggling to think of any other options, and I do walk a long way everyday. I could use the car more so 2 year old doesn't have so far to walk but I don't really want to due to costs and exercise, and I cant park very close to the places we go anyway so walking would still be involved. Plus I don't want to upset my son's sleeping routine any more than necessary!

If anyone has anny thoughts, advice or suggestions I would be so grateful! Thanks in advance x

Hi AnnaMaria,

I have no experience myself as awaiting to adopt our first at the mo. However we've bought the Jane trider and we looked at the Jane twone when we were considering siblings. The twone looks similar config to the phil and teds but normal seat for older child looks to be the same as on the trider. It seems very roomy for a large toddler and the handlebar is very adjustable to suit even the tallest of people. We're very impressed with the quality of Jane so may be worth a look.

I have an oyster max. my now 13 month old used to sleep in the top seat when newborn, as you can lie it flat. if I positioned it facing me it gave DD more room, and because he was only newborn his legs didnt dangle over and annoy her. Also you could clip a car seat on for brief moments when needed that raisewd him up slightly.

I also used sling and single chair. I have an umbrella stroller and I hook DDs reinss over a handle and get her to walk by the side of me. I am contemplating a buggy board now DD is 2.4 and is point blank refusing to get in the buggy when tired and only wants carrying. joy!

Mountain buggy duet or baby jogger city mini ( depending on width of your front door) - you can find plenty of secondhand bargain on eBay / gum tree or joining Facebook groups for these types if buggies...

I ended up getting the duet as it is very narrow but tall enough for my v tall 2+10 month old who needs a buggy every now and again and will sleep in it... Best buggy . Co . Uk has lots of comparison detail which is helpful

Good luck!

icandy apple2pear is one I can recommend, I don't have one but my best friend does and its perfect for her 2 who are quite tall. She lives on a farm so does a lot of walking off road and said it is really comfortable for the babies, her husband is 6" 5 and it's the perfect height for him!

A side by side is probably best (much as they are a pain for doorways) as then he can fully recline.

I know its probably the last thing you want to do but a traipse around Mothercare trying him in all the side by side ones is probs rhe best bet.

What about a Maclaren?
