Maclaren xt help please

Hi, hoping there might be a maclaren buggy expert out there who can help me. I just picked up a Maclaren techno xt from an eBay sale. I'm pretty happy with it generally but I am totally confused about the hood. It has the zip... But when I unzip the hood it just splits into two, the front portion and the back but with the pockets.... There is nothing in between to extend the hood...

What is going on? Am I missing a part or is this a very old one or something? They said it was about 5 years old but may not be true. Just can't understand what purpose the zip has without the extending bit! Any help much appreciated!

Sounds like that part is damaged. The hood is one piece and undoing the zip just allows the extra fabric out so you can extend the hood to provide more shade. Our Maclaren is 5 years old and has this extending hood. Was it sold with this as a feature?

sounds like you have the model without the extending hood. The model before that you could zip the back off for extra ventilation in the hot summers...

Oh thanks for the replies! I checked and no visible sign of damage so must be the older version so zip is for ventilation. I specifically asked about the zip before buying but didn't make it clear what I expected to see! Ah well, live and learn. thanks again for the help.

Usually easiest way to tell is the wheels. They changed them in 2007 (or was it 2008)? And again a year later... 2007 have a sort if bar across, later have a target type design... Pre 2007 had sort of spokes...

The zip hoods came in with the new wheels if I remember rightly!
