really disappointed in the oyster max

saw it today in a baby show and put ds in the bottom seat, the top seat would have to be fully reclined for the new baby due in july but when it is fully reclined it is right in ds's face. I am so disappointed i really love the look of this pram and thought it was perfect until today. Now its back to the drawing board. does anyone know of a tandem where one seat can be fully reclined while giving the toddler space to breathe? I cant get a carrycot as i have a small car and it wont fit in the car so i want one where the main seat lies flat for the newborn

It's a general tandem problem. The b dual and dimples duo do but are v big for the car, esp the dimples duo. Did you happen to look at what sort of recline the lower seat had?

Would the seat not fit into the carrycot to go into the car?
I think the B-Dual and Dimples Duo are two of the best options. I can't think of anything else where a newborn can go into the seat other than adding a wedge eg into the Peach Blossom or City Select.

The City Select carrycot does squish pretty flat BTW.

Thanks, I have been looking at the b dual on line but its being discontinued so not sure where i can see it in the flesh first. there is a good deal on it on line so i am tempted. I was thinking i would have to put the 2nd seat behind the car seat in the back of the car and the main seat and chassis in the boot. are phil and teds any good? I had a quick look at the dot too but not sure about the whole 3 wheel tyre things and have heard they can lean to one side

Sorry tiggy I was mistaken, just the actual version I was looking at is. Looks like they are changing the colours and the chassis from silver to black. Found it on boots website for £225 which I thought was a bargain so I have ordered it to see if I like it and it fits etc and if all is well I will use it for ds for now and then buy the add ons nearer to this baby's due date. I like the look of the baby safe car seat too, might get that or the soft carrycot and put that on the bottom with ds on the top seat. Thanks everyone for your help

Buy the the second seat now while it's so cheap, it will go back up to closer to a hundred imo. The soft carrycot in the bottom and toddler on top is good. I liked the b dual a lot but couldn't get on with the width.

I agree - buy everything now in the old colours. Colours change each year and this is the time of year to pick up bargain pushchairs in the old colours. You may not be able to get the matching second seat later either.

What car do you have?

I just fit a peach blossom 2 into the boot of my vw polo- both seats, chassis and raincovers.

Don't give up on the oyster max!! Mine was delivered today, and I am in love!
What you need to get is the height adjusters. It adds 7cm, so gives both children comfortable space.

The manoeuvrability of the buggy is fantastic, actually I was lighted all round. And really very slim.

Worth a second look!

7cm will make quite a difference! Wish it had been out this time last year for me, would have been perfect.. don't need one now.

If the lower seat space on the oyster max didn't seem enough for you i very much doubt that the dot will, the seats are close. Perfection is impossible hard to find in doubles Smile

The height adjusters were about a tenner if I remember correctly, and yet they turn a decent double into a really very good one.

I can not believe how slim, light and stylish it looks. I need to spend some time looking at the instruction manual, but our first soon was definitely a success. DC2 due append of this month, and I guess that only when I have who children will I really be ale to give a useful judgement.

I love the carrycot though. So light and neat, yet so cosy for a newborn.

Added to which, everything is so easy and intuitive to operate.

I honestly would give the Oyster Max another look. I have had one now for 4 months and I love it. I am pleased the basket has been improved. My only remaining niggle is that the lower seat recline is quite shallow, but with the height increasers on the front seat laid, flat, that wouldn't be so much of an issue. Its much lighter than most tandems to push.

I've been looking at this, I have a 3 year old thats just started nursery and another girl that will be turning 2 when my 3rd (a boy) arrives! I know ill need my 2 year old in a buggy when doing nursery run, was thinking this with 2 seats if recline as dont want carrycot too expensive for short amount of time? Or should I get the graco symbio b and a buggy board or seat if there's one on the market? Realky unsure what to do as everything expensive and realise I wont need double for long? Suggestions very welcome x

Depends on the children and lifestyle but I have ended up using a double both more and for longer than I anticipated with 3rd baby. I do think this is partly due to dc1 being um awkward (polite description) but also speed at times etc. If your symbio has a telescopic extendable handle then you could maybe see if an easy x rider board might fit it. I had ones with a 2y1week gap and it was great as long as you don't walk huge distances. Also most children wouldn't nap on one but some might as i know at least one child who sleeps standing up on her buggyboard!

I liked the oyster max, also twone and peach blossom - all are pricey, for less cash the smyths toys dimples duo offers the same seating combinations as the oyster max for half the price. Plus the lower seat has a full recline where the max doesn't. I really liked mine and they are often discounted from the already pretty cheap 250rrp.

I have the oyster max and love it,whoever is saying about height adjusters, they are not ment to be used on the seat unit at all, only the carrycot or carseat, the main seat turns parent facing and the footrest lifts up and when in this mode they full lay back of the main seat doesn't affect the lower seat x

Hi,
I have a bugaboo donkey and recently bought the oyster max.
I love both buggies for diff reasons as do my kiddies.
I found out a nifty trick with the oyster max...you can swap the seats over...meaning that you can fully recline the lower seat without affecting the other child at all! I love this feature!!!

hi im expecting no 3 and no 2 will only b 13 months old, I currently have an oyster 4 him but will need a double so was wondering if the oyster carrycot will fit on the oyster max chassis

Report
Tiggywunkle · 29/07/2013 00:12

No it wont in double mode. You need the specific Oyster Max carrycot.
I am not sure about single mode though.....hmmm...in theory I would think it fits (I dont know) but I suspect its not safety tested?

Hi I was looking to buy the oyster max at the next baby show at olympia london on 25th oct 2013, this is my first time to a baby show. Was the oyster max available at a discounted price or are they just the same price as other retail stores. I cant seem to get it cheaper anywhere...everywhere is costs £528...does anyone know of a cheaper price.
