Soft carry cots compatible with Baby jogger city mini?

We're looking to buy a new buggy for DC2 and after finding every failing there is in a Loola am kind of set on a City Mini. However I'm stumped when it comes to finding a nice snuggly carry cot for it. I know the obvious answer is to buy the City Mini hard carry cot but at an eye watering £140 that's more than my budget for an entire buggy when I had DS three years ago and I just don't think I can spend that much on something used for so little time. Does anyone know anecdotally if cheaper, and frankly cosier looking soft carry cot inserts by say Graco or Phil and Teds work okay in the City Mini?

Well anything which has the same adaptors as a maxi cosi car seat will fit because those are the adaptive the hard bassinet clips into...

p&t cocoons fit [busmile]

you tuck the handles down the side and strap it through them with the pushchair harness. (does that make sense?)
its fits snuggly, and never bugged an inch when i used it.
also super snuggly [bugrin]

You do need to be careful with doing that with the maxi cosi adapters. Technically a dreami carrycot would fit on top, but might not be safe.

I emailed babystyle ages ago to ask if it's possible to use a Dreami with the maxi cosi adapters and they basically said no. Apparently, because of the way the chassis and dreami are designed (shape, size, weight) it could be unstable. In their case the dreami is bigger and heavier than their own carrycot. They said it might be safe, but it hasn't been tested.

They also told me that if I used a Dreami I would invalidate my guarantee. Although I doubt they'd be able to tell I was using it!

The BJCM carrycot is 76 x 35.5 x 23cm and weighs 4.5kg, the dreami carrycot is 84 x 48.5 x 60/30cm (with hood up/down) and weighs 6.9kg so quite a big difference and may not be safe. Having said that there might be other carrycots that use the same adapters but I have no idea which.

Thanks so much for the fast replies!!! Think I'll look into the Phil and Teds option rather than enter the mindfield of maxi cosi ness as I would like a soft carry cot and have no idea about all the clip business given we don't have a car so I've never fitted a car seat in my life! Cheers again.

I know Graco and Petit Zia soft cots work well parent facing. The Graco has a small hood. I used a Bugaboo Cocoon in the BJCM. It's been fab until 9 months but isn't patent facing.

I had a soft carrycot that I put in all sorts of buggies - i think they're pretty universal. Give it a go!

I got a cheapo one off Ebay and it was fine.

I have just today stumbled upon the Graco Quatro carrycot, £40 in toys r us for the black one, £30 for it in navy but I was a tad fussy and matched the black to that of my pram!!!

It is parent facing and has 2 clips underneath that snap securely onto the D rings of the baby jogger.

I too really wanted the baby to be snug and parent facing for the first couple of months but was staggered by the price of the BJ carrycot!!

Hope this helps.

Hi Kerri,

Is it a Baby Jogger City Mini pushchair that you have fitted the Graco Quatro carrycot into? I think I want to get this buggy but don't think I can stretch to the £140 for the BJCM carrycot.

Thanks very much!

Hello, I'm trying to work out how to use my city mini for dc2 when he/she arrives in nov. I like the idea of a soft carrycot but can't work out how it could be parent facing, as it doesn't fully reclined the head would be below the feet. Would you put in a wedge cushion underneath to even it up?

Apparently the Petit Zia ones have some sort of wedge to them which makes them fit well. I have never seen one personally though!

I have a Graco soft carrycot and it has a wedge built in at the head end to make the baby lie flat in the pushchair.

Sorry, another question. Do you know if you could use a buggy board whilst it is reclined with baby inside? Thanks for the help.
