Pram that will fit in Ford Ka boot?

JumpingForJuly · 14/12/2010 12:17

Im due to give birth in July and I'm looking for a pram but it will need to fit in the boot of a Ford Ka, so obviously not alot of room.

Has anybody got any recommendations of a pram thats bulky enough to feel like the baby's snug but will fit in quite a small boot?!

The Silvercross 3D is a bit shorter than most - its arms pop down.

No advice here sorry but i think it will have to be something pretty small, my mum has a KA and our Bebecar Vector is WAY to big to go in although it doesn't look particularly massive once it's up. We're having to get an umberella folding pushchair for when im out with my mum!! Maybe try a Mamas & Papas Pliko Pramette as i think they might be umberella folding and they have a clip on car seat.

I have a ka. Have not found a buggy to go in boot. I have a maclaran xt and it goes behind me.

I have had a Loola Up and a Bee plus. Both fit comfortably in the boot of my KA.

I tried a friends Silvercross 3D in and it wouldn't fit.

We have a Ford Ka (and fortunately a Focus). When my dd was a little baby I used the Focus.www.mothercare.com/Mothercare-Jive-Stroller-Flowers/dp/B0040MZQXK/sr=1-4/qid=1292358892/ref=sr_1_4/278-8057816-1207700?_encoding=UTF8&m=A2LBKNDJ2KZUGQ&n=44333031&mcb=core there are non-pink ones too! ]]

When she got a bit bigger we found that we could fit a Mothercare Jive buggy in the boot (sideways, and the shelf still fits). - suitable from 3 months iirc, will try and link. :) [[

We didn't have any luck with a "pram" as such. The rear seat does fold down so if you needed to squeeze a pram in then you might be able to do a bit of a juggle?

tbh if we had only the one small car, the Ka, then I would probably have managed with a sling for the first 3 months.

Please don't be tempted to do a split seat to accomdate a buggy. It would be lethal in an accident.

Surely it would depend on the size of the buggy (or indeed any large item of luggage or similar?) and how it was restrained/fixed?

My word "juggle" probably made me sound very irresponsible, sorry.

Mamas and papas Luna fits which is one of the reasons I chose it. You have to put the handle to either the left or right (forgotten which) on its side and just not have parcel shelf on. It's suitable from birth. I wouldn't rave about it as a buggy but it's a cheap option too because it does the birth to doesn't need a buggy any more full time scale.

Petite star zia folds really small I think.

No idea if it's suitable for a newborn as I haven't bought one yet.

If its the new style Ka, then a bugaboo cam fits in. I was frankly amazed when I managed to get mine in. Had to take the back wheels off mind, but it fitted comfortably and I could have got shopping in there too.

Have you thought of the Quinny Zapp Xtra? The seat comes off the chassis, and the chassis folds down impressively small so perfect for a small boot. It's also suitable from birth and can be used with a Maxi-Cosi car seat.

Bugaboo bee fits. We have a ford ka, we started out with a mother care spin, there is a knack to fitting this in, it does fit, without the parcel shelf, but it's tricky. We bought maxi cosi adapters and just had the frame in the boot, and put the car seat on the frame if we weren't going to be out too long. We purchased the bee (old style) because I wasn't happy having DD in the car seat too much, she was beginning to look cramped!
I would recommend the bee with a newborn insert, they do look snug in it, and it's a dream to push.

The quinny xtra could be what you are looking for. It will fit in a very small boot. I have had it in a mini. It is also rear and forward facing. It is lightweight and reclines. Using it with a maxi cosi means that it is suitable from birth too.

Many bifolds won't fit, but just about any that collapse down square can fit if put on their side. I had a very unfashionable Graco with dc1 and then a 3 wheeler and I could fit pram and shopping in the boot. Don't have a KA anymore but I think you can also move the back seats forward a little, there's a catch on each side.
