Buggies - babies sleeping in them??

we have narrowed our choice of travel system to the Bugabloodyexpensiveboo and the Mothercare Mychoice. As far as we can tell, the only difference is that the bugaboo has a rigid, flat carry cot base when taken off the chasis. Is this important? we were told the mychoice cannot be taken off the chasis with the baby asleep in it as it does not lie flat. Confused dad to be???

Babies should only be left to sleep in something flat. So they shouldnt be left in a carseat or a pram that does lay compleatly flat. Sitting up or in a semi upright posision can force the babys chin to lay on the chest and cause breathing problems, this is ok for short periods but can lead to cot death if baby left for long periods or on a regular basis. It can also cause spine defects as before a baby can support themselves they tend to slope sideways if not laid flat.

Id go for one that comes off the chasis so you can take it with you if baby falls asleep, although this isnt too importaint if you are near the pram, its just handy, however, it laying flat is essential IMO.

I love my bugaboo and was very handy for using as a carrycot when visiting friends.

I believe the mattress on the bugaboo is slightly different too - if you take the cover off there is a honeycomb layer on top which circulates air under babies face reducing the risk of SIDS. I've tried it myself and it really is a big difference. This makes is suitable for overnight sleeping so you could use the carrycot as a moses basket if you chose.
Also, you will probably find that the carrycot on the mychoice is quite small in comparison to the bugaboo which is very generous, and the weight of the bugaboo which is incredibly light at 9.8kg for the whole lot, whereas the mychoice is quite a bit heavier than that.
Other possible difference is the rear tyres on the bug are puncture proof foam and are air on the mychoice.
Last but not least, when you come to sell your pushchair and get a smaller one, the bugaboo resale value will be fantastic, whereas the mychoice will be substantially less as a % of the original price.

Just another point of view but when it's in pushchair mode I do prefer the seat on the My Choice to the bucket seat of the bug.
