has anyone layed decking tiles directly over a flat gravel surface? still trying to find cheapish ways to make my garden more child friendly, but will be doing it myself so dont fancy using joists etc.

I did this in a way, but just loosely laid them on thicker wood and screwed the tiles to them.Laying them onto on gravel would make them wobbly very quickly. I def would not lay them without joists as they soon become bumpy and dangerous. Even screwing them onto flat laid wood was not good in the long run as the water seeped into the underlying wood and rotted them!
Wickes supply helpful leaflets to do the job properly and I would really go this route, as my husband did the full joist thing and the decking is fab
Having helped him in 30C degree temperatures it really isn't difficult, just need a really good electric screwdriver.
