Boiler on internal wall?

I was always under the impression that boilers have to sit on external walls. However, the house we are contemplating buying has a boiler on an internal wall, in what used to be a larder. It's a brand new condensation boiler, about 50cm high, and we suspect the plumbing was done by a cowboy just from looking at the pipes around boiler and watertank and how untidy it all looks. So - is this dodgy as in, back out of buying?

my understanding is, that existing boilers are ok on internal walls, ie fitted before the rules changed, but you'd need to check it's vented properly. if it packed in and needed replacing, it would have to be moved to an external wall. if you're still seriously interested in the property, get a plumber/gas person to check it out for you, and also have a look around to see if there is anywhere the boiler could be moved to should it ever need to be.

That's interesting because they had it installed last year, replacing an old boiler, so it should have moved to the outside wall surely!

Is the boiler vented at all ?

Don't know, how do I tell? We did see steam coming out of a hole in the external wall opposite the boiler.

Very interesting - I had a new condensing boiler fitted last year in our bathroom (3rd story in a terrace) it replaced the existing boiler but I knew nothing about this.

We did have to have some pipes and ventilation shafts installed though.

Feierabend - steam comes from our wall too, as it does from many other houses nearby , I assumed this was normal?

We're about to move our boiler to an internal wall (as part of a complete kitchen refit). The builders are creating a false ceiling and venting it to the external wall in the ceiling void.

Yes you should be able to see steam coming from a vent in an external wall.(when the boiler is in use)
