Not sure if anyone remembers my many posts but back in June we bought our new kitchen, ripped downs a wall and slowly put it all back together to make a lovely playroom/kitchen.

It's ever so nearly finished (we did literally everything ourselves, god bless flat pack I am now a assembling godess!)

I had many many question about workmen, lighting, wooden worktops, kitchen stlyes and I think the ast post Re the kitchen was a mini panic attick that the gap between the units was too small and we would have a galley kitchen! Thank you doodle, noddy and mrsmaidamess for talking me down from that one

Anyway pictures are here, here and here. Have a nosey. Still not finished but hopefully will all be done by Monday after some hard core DIY! Excuse the mess and alcohol, I'm just cleaning up from xmas guests!

Thank you all one again!

Oh, it's great. Especially like the green splashback behind the hob and the black tiles on the floor. I love the mini-table - do you have lots and lots of children?

haha lala, no I have no children; but I am a CM and work with another CMer and we have 6 children here every day!

That is a fabulous room-you must be so pleased with it-and yourselves for doing it.

navy I remember lots of your posts, the kitchen is beautiful, well done. I also wondered about the number of children you had when I saw all those chairs

Thought you were the Von Trapps

How wide is that gap where you were worried it would be too narrow?

It is absolutely gorgeous. I missed your original thread so can I ask - where did you get the kitchen units from and how hard were they to assemble? I am trying to talk dh into fitting our next kitchen but he is very reluctant.

Morning everyone, thanks for all the compliments yes we love it even though it's not everyone's cup of tea it's my fav part of the house! Just can't wait to get it all done and get it looking more organised, I hate clutter but it's everywhere at the mo. Have just ordered £150 worth of storage boxes for the shelves in playroom so that will help.

Fizzylemonade, the gap is 110cm (I think, DP doing something to kitchen floor at mo so can't go and measure). Original thread is here if you want a nose. Think it helps the we only have 3 lots of 60cm doors all on same side.

Noddlyholder, yup love the floor although it is cold when you sit on it playing for a long time - wish we could have afforded under floor heating! Going to buy a nice big rug I think.

lisad123wantsherquoteinDM - sorry to freak you out! A lot of the houses in my area look like this maybe your friend lives near me? I'm in Bristol.

OpheliaPain - that green thing is either a glass splashback, or flowers? Depends which green thing you mean?

hippipotamiHasLost77lbs - I think it's cool too! Doesn't look as good in the night time as you need the natural light to bounce of it but I love it. We got it from these guys. It's slightly the wrong colour which is a bit of a pain, it's meant to be more of a zesty lime, but I think it's apple green?! Having a row with the suppliers at the mo.

Kitchen units are from Wickes, the range in inverness (think they have a 50% off sale at mo). I put them together by myself so they are easy to put together. But my DP says they were easy but time consuming to put on the walls as our walls aren't the straightest.

Rindercella it is Christmas in my defence!

Heated the lights are from iconic lighting (quite cheap) and the big orange one is a FLY Kartell light (stupidly expensive). All the children love the big orange light - it's a bit random but that's my sort of thing!

The tables are a bit of an ikea hack. It's from the part where you make your own table (can't find it onine!). It's basically their cheapest large tabletop in pine, with lockable castor legs. My DP cut the legs to child height and made the table into a drop leaf table so we can put them into the middle of the room and make them bigger for crafty play. The oil cloth on top makes it easier to clean and was from ebay.

found the ikea table parts, these are the legs. We just cut them down to child height. this is the table top I think we used.

Much cheaper that normal childrens tables and much bigger too!

Oh navy I like!

I also love the green (see my pics on my profile!)

I like the Inverness in situ, that was the other one that we considered... It looks good

What wood is the worktop?

Report
navyeyelasH · 01/01/2010 13:14

cece, I love your kitchen it's like mine on steroids! So jealous of your lovely doors onto the garden.

Ermm the worktop is American White Oak which apparently is a better sort of oak to have if you have an under mount sink. We got it from here and got them to cut the rounded part for the breakfast bar, but DP did the other cuts himself - which was very nerve-racking!!!

LOL our kitchens could definitely be related, maybe siblings?!

Doors are lush but not really had them opened much as too cold since they were fitted. I agree about the underfloor heating - wish I had had it fitted now. But that is the only thing I would change.

Mine is definitely the much younger sister, yours is very lovely .

Is your flooring ceramic? Are we a little bit sad to be having this conversation?!

No it is Amtico but where the heating hot water pipes run under it it is lovely.

Your worktop is nice. Are you oiling it??

No we are not sad. We are interesting

Love both your kitchens. Navy, I have bookmarked your worktop supplier - I live in hope of getting a new kitchen one day

Report
navyeyelasH · 01/01/2010 13:41

It's a weird sort of cold I find, like in bare feet it's not so bad it's only if you're keeping still on it. Still it's much warmer than ceramic/slate etc!

We got the worktop preoiled, but we also are oiling it to be safe! The plan so far has been to oil it every day for a week, every week for a month, and then every month for a year. Bit of hassle but should be worth it for long term!

I need to get some nice big Trivets that can be put away; not having much luck so far! How are you finding pots and pans etc?
