Could I cover my leather Chesterfield seat cushions in hot pink velvet?

I have suddenly got it into my head that this is the way round the DH-loves-it-I hate-it Dark Brown Leather Chesterfield dilemma. Have I finally lost the plot or could this work? Is this even possible?!

I think it would look fantastic but it would cost a lot if it is what I think a chesterfield is (lots of button work etc?). You would need a very good cover person and it would probably be cheaper to buy something else.

You are right about it being the dreadful buttoned thing all over the sides and back, but I am thinking I would only get the removable seat cushions done, not the whole lot. So it would be half leather half velvet IYSWIM. Is this a terrible plan? DH is rolling on the floor in pain!! But I think it might look quite good?

hmm, quite a radical change and with such a bold clour you might regret it in a couple of years' time and then have to spend again on changing it....
not sure about just doing some of it, think an all or nothing approach might be more stylish?

i think it would look fabulous if you did the entire thing
doing half would be very odd

All or nothing, I'm afraid. You could soften it with some really amazing throw cushions in pink, lime etc and an expensive (cashmere or something similar) throw folded down from the top of the back to the seat to just above the floor (but not on the arms and sides iyswim) - you would have to constantly straighten it though.

Semi-harrumph, although think you are all, in fact ,right. And I am not quite the style visionary I had hoped. Will investigate the All approach!

No, I think it would look brilliant with hot pink seats, honestly!

But we do have a leather chesterfield with dramatic silk cushions (Designers Guild in the Selfridges sale last year) and an expensive looking throw (from TK Maxx) and it looks good. It's just that every time I see one of those patchwork covered sofas, I lust after them!

Sell it and use the money to buy a new one

I covered a horrid fabric buttoned thing years and years ago, basically my Mum did it and she is amazing at this sort of thing. We used thin foam to pad out the back and wadding? Then we used a very heavy thick fabric otherwise it would have shown through.

We used an electric bread knife to shave the foam to shape it at the top and sides otherwise you would have seen the ridge.

My Mum used to re-cover our sofa every 2 years and replace the seat cushions with foam, she is truly gifted.

It was hard work, but she had 20 years experience of doing it so made it look easy. It was back in the day where we had zero money so had to make do.

Now? If I hated it I would get rid and get something we I liked.
