Oiled/Lacquered Oak floors?

I'm wracked with indecision over what kind of finish to have with our oak flooring which we're having in our hall/study/sitting room. We've got oiled wooden worktops in the kitchen which look lovely, but do need oiling fairly frequently. Are floors the same? Are lacquered floors tough enough to withstand heavy family use? TIA.

We have oiled oak throughout the downstairs. The floorboards have been oiled once in 5 years and they still look lovely. They are due for a maintenance oil soon . I love the mattness of an oiled floor. We wash ours with extra white wood soap to counteract any darkening as we like them fairly pale.

We're having oiled fitted this week in hall, study and living room! Went for oiled as if you get a small damage/scratch you can repair that little bit and it won't look so noticable as if you damage lacquered. We spent a long time looking around flooring shops and decided this would be best for us, especially in the hallway. Also if your access to the house is from the hallway consider having an inbuilt doormat (large one).

That's exactly the same reason we're thinking of getting oiled Squiz, so that small bits of damage can be repaired easily. I'm just concerned that we're going to have to do more frequent repairs iyswim.

We are having a new oiled wood floor laid next week. What is the best way to clean it - we have already got one of thos stick things which has disposable dusters on the end, but can anyone recommend a good vacuum cleaner for wooden floors?

sorry to jump but if you have recently put down a good oiled floor would you mind telling me who your supplier was? just lookign for a recommendation.

OOh and me herhonesty - did you lot go for solid boards or engineered? Ours is to go over underfloor heating so we are going for engineered but I don't know where to start finding a supplier.

ours were all oiled apart from the bathroom which was lacquered. The oiled looked better and lasted a million times longer, so I've just sanded the bathroom and oiled it.

we have an element 7 fired oak floor. looks as good as when installed - amazing quality.

I got my lacquered engineered floors from the Solid Wood Flooring Company. Brilliant quality and fairly reasonable I thought. And they are really helpful when you call and can talk you through what is right for you. I went for lacquered because they are low maintenance and they can always be sanded if they get totally knackered. The woman I talked to at SWF has 3 DSs and two dogs and she said they stood up fine to that level of wear and tear which is a lot more than mine will ever get
