£1400 [ouch] - fitted. but we have an old 3-bed semi which is quite large and has 10 radiators, oh and I should say that's a bosch combi-boiler. They work it out on output volume, per room, per radiator, etc.

Hope it doesn't break the bank...

Interesting. Someone mentioned a brand called Vaillant (I think) - that they could do it for about 1k, fitted. Never heard of them but I do know Bosch. We have about 9 rads - the thing is that 2 of the rooms are huge and the flat has v high ceilings,
Did you just call Bosch up?

we got a plumber who was recommended as he'd done work at MIL/FIL's house. We got a boiler about 3 yrs ago, cant remember the name - it's Italian - but it came in about £250 cheaper than the worcester bosch, so we went for it. What a mistake. It broke down after two and a half years, beyond repair (nobody could get parts for it either) and we ended up forking out the £1400 for the new one. This time we were going for the best make around, and it lives up to its reputation. We learned the hard way not to cut corners... much more expensive in the long run.

I got a new Vaillant, I know a really good (but not cheap!) Corgi registered plumber and he recommended it. It has been 100% reliable so far, I've had it nearly a year.
Happy to pass on the plumbers details if you like (he's in London) - let me know if you'd like them?
I think it was about £1200 or so including fitting.

we've just bought a new worcester combi boiler. it was about £700 new on ebay from a plumbers merchants. our mates who are plumbers said even they couldn't get them as cheap as that while they are on special offer!

its not been fitted yet, but apparently all looks as it should do!

the new boilers are so efficient that we should save on our bills a fair bit...it will go a little way to making up for having to get a new one.

I've just had a new Vaillant put in by British Gas and it came to 2k, so 1k sounds great to me ! Ours broke down to £850 boiler and £1150 labour for fitting, some magnetic filter and a power flush.

However being ripped off by some idiot for a whole new central heating system 5 years ago which has never worked properly (British Gas Vans are a feature of our house), I would have paid pretty much anything.

I love in Plymouth and i also need a new boiler unfortunately.....British Gas quoted me £3500, and the cheapest i can find fully fitted is £1900 for a Wocester. This is just for the boiler no radiators. We have a Vaillant at the moment at it has lasted 24 years but British Gas have now put it into hibernation...aahhhh.

It was in the house when we moved in 10 years ago so it has lasted a long time.

Some of the other prices on here are great...i wish mine was going to be that cheap!

£1600 (I think) for a Worcester Bosch about 4 months ago. It's fabulous.

Local plumber fitted worcester bosch 28i junior combi- condensor in my 3 bed detached house. We are in Yorkshire.

Went with Bosch because it comes with 2 yr guarentee then if it breaks down it actually tells the engineer what is wrong with it so no engineer can wing out their call our cost for hours on end.

Cost £2300 we had thermostatic valves put on 10 radiators and a new radiator put in. All the pipes were removed, tank etc

Took 3 days.

Gosh, the price variations are huge, even when comparing the same brand boiler. I suppose plumbers' charges vary widely.

Giggle, is your plumber in London?

Lowrib, would be happy to have your guy's details.

we were quoted £2500 for a new worcester bosch last week.
once we picked ourselves back off the floor, i called a local company who managed to weld the problems and give boiler new lease of life for £500 (we are moving in a few weeks)

no - we're north west England, and the £1400 was new W-B boiler fitted.

Hiya maggiethecat it's Steve Rouse 07973703795.

He's Corgi registered, he did a great job at mine, and he's a nice guy too!

If you contact him please could you say you got his number from Rebecca (oops, outing myself here, but never mind! Don't think I've written anything too shameful recently )

Thanks Lowrib, will call him.

Fizzylemonade, I got a quote for a Bosch- 30si, I think, for 2,200. Same thing recommended - valves on the 10 rads and a flush. Only thing is that they project a one day job versus 3 days in your case.

It seems as if the big variations are really due to labour costs because the price differences in decent quality boilers is not all that great.

I have a remote thermostat/control panel so that instead of it being on the wall I can move it wherever I think is best but can't see that that cost loads.

It was one man job so maybe that is why it took 3 days, I followed him round as he did it all so he was grafting not sat on his arse. Luckily I had my 2yr old toddler who was fascinated by it all hence my excuse to watch him working

They have to rip all the pipes out of the loft, remove the cold water tank, hot water tank, put stop ends on all the pipes coming from the boiler that are visible - in my case the tank cupboard over the stairs, remove original emersion heater switch from kitchen and original thermostat and control panel, fit valves on 10 rads, plus they installed a new double rad for me in the conservatory and it was moved from the original location. He drilled new hole in exterior wall for new ventilation pipe thing, and they have to plumb in a separate waste pipe for the boiler as it is a condensor it drains the condensation off.

I have no idea how you would do all that in one day unless there were two men doing it.

Hope this helps

We had a second boiler fitted a couple of months ago - it was a combi thingy servicing part of the house (long story) but it cost around £1.5k

our potterton was replaced over the New Year and the boiler itself cost about £800 - but I had to have a radiator done as well (double). Complete with refit costs, all in cost about £1600.

DON'T get a BG quote - my sis just had one and they said £4000!!!
