Interior design - what colours do you think suit this room?!

Hi there, I've just moved into my first house and I was wondering if anyone has any good ideas for colour schemes for our bedrooms. We aren't allowed to change the colour of the walls, and the carpet is unlikely to be changed whilst we are there ... I've uploaded some stills from a video we took to show the colour of the carpet (at times both a bright red and a brown red..) and walls (ignore the blue curtains, they're going as soon as possible), but any good ideas for bed sets/accents/rugs etc? Struggling a bit as your carpet colour looks so different in both pics. What kind of style do you like? Have you seen the colour palettes all over pinterest? They're a great way to start designing a room. I thought this one possibly matched your raspberry pink carpet and cream walls

Hello! Yes I know.. I think it's because one gets more light than the other but they are essentially the same carpet. It's more of a reddy red than pink, quite bright in person and a fairly cheap carpet (rented accomm so certainly won't be anything fancy). I'm wondering what colour furniture to buy as well..

You could buy a very large cheap rug and cover the carpet with it, which would free up the colour scheme a little and also protect the carpet against spills.

I remember in one rental covering a hideous carpet with bedspreads. Quite a hippy look and not one is go for now, but it did make for a nice cosy room, although it probably wouldn't have won any design awards!

Hi, you could have a look at this:
www.harlequin.uk.com/shop/fabric/impasto/hermosa/?code=HBRU120162
It shows the same sort of colours as your carpet seems to be and mixes it well with green and also chilli.
Don't be afraid to look at that deep purpley blue, it can offset the red quite well.
Hope it's of some help :)

I've lived with so many cheap odd coloured carpets and always hated them. My advice is not to coordinate around them, instead find a solution to cover them. IKEA sell jute rugs cheaply, if the room's big then buy 2/3 and lay them side by side.

When you've knocked the room back to a neutral shade then start to consider what you like and go from there.

Do you have any furniture? If not, what's your budget?

Cover as much of the carpet as possible with rugs, buy neutral furniture that you like, and restrict colour coordination with the carpet to a few cheap things like cushions. Otherwise (bitter experience) all of your stuff will not work decor-wise once you move again.

No furniture as of yet... budget is probably around 750 to kit out 2 bedrooms (not beds) and a study cum 3rd bedroom, but each room has an inbuilt double wardrobe already.

I like that the consensus is to ignore the carpets like they're a travesty that don't exist and to proceed by covering them up Grin I will take a look at Ikea and equally at more bold floral prints for curtains (perhaps red within the print) I can totally understand not planning around one red carpet, chances are in the next house it'll be avocado green!!
