Small kitchen area but huge walk in parntry?

I'm toying with this idea I have and would like feedback on whether it's a good idea or not.

We are remodelling a house we are about to complete on, this will give us a fairly large rectangle shaped kitchen from the front of the house to the back. As the kitchen is shares a wall with the double garage and also empty space where we are planning a double story exention, we are able to build a room of the side of the kitchen.

My question is, should I go for a small kitchen area, keeping a minimalist look, units for let's say a third of the kitchen, then space for a small dining table and a lounge type area (will have a separate formal dining room and separate kids play room and separate formal lounge) and then make a walk in pantry to house all the other pots and pans, non- everyday essentials, spare cans of food, bags of rice/pasta etc etc... my thinking is, with busy lives we will spend most of our evenings in this one area so we can all be together, and I will have less cleaning up to do for the kitchen so can hopefully keep it more tidy and clean as there will be less work tops etc. As apposed to using up the whole kitchen with units and work tops that will need cleaning due to dust etc...

What do ppl think?

Make the pantry area multi purpose ie a utility room, put the washing machine in there.
It all depends on an honest appraisal of your lifestyle, how much of what type of cooking do you do?

Have a good size kitchen diner and the one living room you have already otherwise you risk not using the existing room. Agree with pp about utility with extra kitchen storage.

We're just finishing a kitchen/dining/family room extension and as part of the layout built a walk in pantry / working area to minimise "stuff" we have to have out in the kitchen. Floor to ceiling shelves all round and a proper counter worktop along the back. Coffee machine, toaster, microwave and panini machine are all in there. It's fab. So much storage and all the messy things are out of the way. Shut the doors at the end of day and all the clutter is gone. :-). One of our favourite things about the extension.

What size are you playing with??

I love my pantry - I have a large kitchen with table and couch but I wouldnt say I have a massive amount of units - double (toaster, spices, etc), cooker, corner unit for pans, small single for jugs etc, slim drawers for tea towels utensils, dishwasher, sink, corner unit crockery, fridge
Food items are in the pantry/fridge

Yes to getting washer/dryer or other electrics in their if you don't have utility
