Long story short: we're gutting and rebuilding an old house, inc an attic extension and side return. This week I noticed the builder had failed to pour two padstones under piers supporting the main steels. Appallingly I had to point this out as building regs had passed it! Anyway, panic ensued, they've dug the requisite holes to be filled with concrete on Monday so basically the two piers have massive holes under them, with the clay soil exposed to the weather. Forecast is for torrential rain tomorrow. Our house has had subsidence before, am I crazy or is leaving these holes open to fill up with rainwater and soften not going to cause the walls to shift?!

Builder left foundations exposed during underpinning, heavy rain expected tomorrow, panicking!
