New door furniture - polished brass or antique / aged brass

That's it really. I prefer aged brass but the only letter box I can find that I like and that matches the current fittings is polished brass.

Any opinions on polished brass?

Front door furniture by the way - knocker, bell, letter box etc.

As long as you have a housemaid who can be relied upon to polish it several times a week, polished brass is OK.

If you live near the sea, it will need a lot of attention.

I have recently been using PVD Brass on Stainless Steel hinges, it seems to stay bright without attention.

If you want to see a vast range of door furniture, have a look at Ironmongery Direct

p.s.

I managed to get a old bronze door handle. If clean, and occasionally wiped and waxed, bronze will age like a Victorian penny.

Some of the stuff sold as bronze is some kind of bronze-coloured paint.

Thank you. Polishing the brass is probably not my thing so I'll keep looking!
