Edging for flooring around fireplace

Our floor fitter has edged the fireplaces with some quite thick wood pieces and to me it doesn't look right. I'm sure there must be some kind of thin edging (maybe L shaped) which would slot into the gap and cover the edge a bit more neatly? Anyone know what it is called if it exists?

Is the fireplace practical or ornamental? Is the surround tiled?

I suppose you could have a brass or iron fender if you wanted, but the flooring fitter is just doing the wooden floor and trim, so it would be outside his scope.

Does the marble run level with the wood?
I agree it looks unusual but if the two are level I doubt there's much more he could have done without specialist stuff and extra expense.

Google flooring trim or beading- most online flooring retailers sell them.

From what I can make out, the planks of the flooring are wide and he's used edging which is in proportion with those planks.

Some more pictures including the trim around the stove in another room. I think it should be less high but admittedly the flooring has been laid after the hearth which gives a less good finish.

My hearth is a similar set up - black hearth and a wood floor fitted after hearth was put in. My fitter has used a line of black filler which looks very unnoticeable. I guess a thin black bit of beading/trim would look similar too.

I wouldn't be very happy with the thickness of your trim or the colour as it catches the eye too much.
