Hemming curtains

How much is a reasonable amount to pay for getting curtains hemmed? I've been quoted by a local lady, but I have no idea whether her prices are fair or not.

(And before anyone asks - no, I can't do it myself! They need to be cut down and hemmed as they're coming up nearly a foot, and I'm scared of ruining them. Plus I don't have a sewing machine...)

I charge 8 to 10 pounds per width

You don't need a sewing machine for hemming curtains. The bespoke ones have hand sewn hems. I would machine sew the lining though. I did have some curtains hemmed a while back as I was feeling lazy. I was charged £30 for 2 1.5 width curtains. She did machine the hem, but it was a fairly invisible stitch.

I've just paid £15 for a pair to be hemmed

The important thing to do before you have them hemmed is to hang them for about 2 weeks to let them drop. And yes curtain hems should be hand sewn not machined.
