Wood or uPvc?

I'm not a fan of stark white uPVC windows and I don't think I know of anyone who has has a set of them last more than 15 years. Do they have any advantage over wood?

for the 10 years you do keep them you don't have to paint them.

Check out windows made by a company called Residence 9. I've just seen their windows in a show room and now have serious window envy. They look more like wood than wood, but aren't. I did a search on Mumsnet earlier and some people have them and love them.
If not, also consider wood grain upvc, which isn't as stark white, and looks as stylish as upvc can....

If you can afford aluminium, consider it. I adore mine and the colour choices are vast.

You can get upvc in different colours now - lots of the new builds round here have grey. And one particular house has red (which is so unusual I've probably outed myself!)

Not mine, may I add...

Residece 9 windows are beautiful! Twice as expensive as standard PVC though iirc. And they have a deeper profile than standard windows. I didn't go for them in the end.

Well crafted hardwood windows are lovely. I much prefer them to PVC. (The crappy, ill fitting, draughty old softwood ones that were in my house however, I don't miss much.)
