Box room with stair box... How to use??

We will soon be moving into a new home where the smallest bedroom is a 10x6.7 box room with a stair box.. Which will be DS's bedroom. Any suggestions on how I can use the space? I have seen houses where the space above the stair box is used for wardrobes, but I am not convinced that the best solution...

DS is 3.5 and is still in his cotbed (with the sides removed) DS is quite tall for his age and I know sometime later this year the cot bed is going to be too small for him.... I don't know whether I should be going for a single bed. I definitely need storage in the room... Just not sure how to achieve it and at the same time have at least some space to move around.... Currently DS only uses his room for sleeping and plays downstairs... But i am thinking that this my change later and DS will want to play in his room..

TIA :)

We had a bed custom made to go over the stair box. It was her feet end and we had storage put in the other end.

Oh, there was storage underneath too.

What about getting a bed built in over the stair box with some drawers under to try and free up some floor space?

Yes building into the space as a midi or high sleeper leaving as much floor space as possible is sensible.

Thanks all! Any recommendations for where I can go for a custom made bed?

We have a single bed over the box. It makes the room much bigger and more usable, and there's now storage room under the bed too. We bought a pine bed frame, which we chopped the legs off at the foot, and raised up on a little wooden 'box step' at the head to make it level.

Also, has anyone used the space above the stair box to build wardrobes?? Something like this... www.robeplan.com/gallery_images/bedroom/02.jpg

We bought a flatpack triple wardrobe from Argos, the sort with drawers underneath. The drawers weren't the full depth of the wardrobe (often the way with cheap chipboard furniture) so there was a bit of a void at the back to start with. DH hacked the carcass slightly and shortened the lowest drawer depth a bit to fit. This was much more usable storage than the previous solution, which was just a big over-deep cupboard with a raised floor. The new wardrobe had a mix of shelves and hanging space so it did for all the storage in the room.

We've also hacked a basic pine flatpack bed frame to fit a space slightly shorter than a standard mattress. Building a custom bed is doubtless a better solution but this was just easier than organising someone to do it.

Another option is to buy a basic midsleeper and shorten the legs at one end. You can use the space underneath for a chest of drawers, den etc.

We used it as a wardrobe and storage, it was already built as a cupboard and you could fit a bed between the end of the box and the window so it worked.

Other than that bed above it is best use of space.

Similar here - bought a high sleeper (although DS was 9) and hacked the legs at one end so that it rests on the stair box. At the end, H made a desk (the stair box is kind of under tge desk) and at the other end under the bed has a futon.
