Another door issue for me
So I need a vestibule door Victorian terrace seen a door j love reclaimed it it's too wide... Now just had joined round (recommended) who rely doesn't want to trim door as he thinks it will will weaken the door...

It's 89 cm and needs to fit 80.5 space so would need nearly 2 inches off each side which is too much... He did suggest altering the frame from the inside trimming off the architrave to fit the door

Does this sound sensible... Really not sure but I love the door so hard to find original items in good condition exact size

Help!

The stiles might be about four inches wide, so taking two inches off each side would be too much. You would also be cutting away most of the tenon. Cutting away the architrave and closing it onto the face of the wal would look very odd.

Sell it, and buy another door.

Doors are commonly made in 32" (indoor and out), 30", 28", 26" and 24" (mostly for cupboards) and 36" for wide front doors. You might think they are in metric sizes until you convert them to inches.

Ok so it sounds like a no goer I haven't actually bought the door but will tell the seller it's impossible

Such a shame thanks PJ

Keep looking. Best to wait for one that fits. It will save you a lot of hassle and potentially weak door. You could alway copy the design of this door in a size that fits?
