Packing service when you have clutter

I've read a few threads about how great packing services are for moving but I'm still worried once the movers start opening all my cupboards n drawers they will get a nasty shock. The companies who came out to quote didn't do too much poking around. I have been trying to sort through them all, chucking out as much as I can & trying to organise stuff together. Will they just pack the drawers full? Or do they have to empty them & wrap everything individually? they are coming they day before to pack but I'm getting stressed & I'm so tempted to just start packing it all myself so I feel more on top of things, which I know I'm not supposed to do because of insurance purposes. But I'm getting to the stage where I feel like I'm just shuffling things around & wasting my time as it's not making me feel any calmer. Also will they be asking lots of question when packing or can u literally go out & leave them to it?

I don't think they would wrap everything individually, more likely to put contents of a drawer into one box. They will bring everything in the drawer however - imagine my pleasure at unpacking the box containing DH's toenail clippings and old bus tickets (I missed that one in my de-cluttering)

Yes to leaving them to it.

Drawers were mixed with us. Some they emptied, others (bedside cabinets) they left intact and just padded. They do wrap bits though, so you will have the clutter packed.

Leave them to it. It will all vanish without you getting involved at all.

In my experience, small sets of drawers were left packed. Big things got emptied. And don't worry about any remaining clutter. I'm sure nothing in your house can compare with the clutter that was piled high in my loft. The packing company didn't bat an eyelid Grin

I find it is easier to get rid of stuff as you are unpacking your boxes in your new place, because then your keen to keep your new house looking nice (well that's my logic and my excuse for not unpacking all the boxes yet).

Thanks for all your replies! Feeling a bit calmer now. I have time of work once we are moved in, plus the new place is bigger so it would be easier to sort out at the other end. I have been decluttering on & off for the past two years so I don't even know how much more I want to get rid off, I just feel like a packing service sounds too good to be true. When I had to pack my house myself last time (on a very short deadline) I couldn't even eat I was so stressed. Got a man with a van type removal & in the end they left stuff behind so we were having to take the rest via multiple cars trips as we had more than they expected. So this is really the part I dread the most Sad

I think it's easy when you're moving to obsess about things especially those things that you're not in control of. When our packing fell behind they just sent more people in, it is their responsibility to finish it whatever time that is and whatever the cost to them, the peace of mind of that is what you are paying for as well as the work.

Last time I had the packers in I went and had my nails done! It felt good and I wasn't getting under their feet, maybe plan a lunch or something for yourself to feel like you're getting your money's worth.

Good luck Smile

Thanks suzy the thought of being able to get pampered instead of shuffling round stressing is very tempting. I just can't relax if people are doing things around me, I feel like I should always be doing something aswell, I'm the same when we have workmen in, so I think the lunch at least is a very good idea! Maybe when I come back I'll realise they don't need me stood around looking panicked
