Please someone recommend me a loo seat!

The previous loo seat was in situ for several decades, solid as a rock and easily cleanable, and then I dropped the cistern lid on it and smashed it.

Since then I have had loo seat after loo seat - expensive ones, cheap ones, everything - and none of them last longer than a year as the fixings (to the loo) snap. The seat itself is fine.

Help, please! I am fed up of the sodding things breaking.

We've got a Trigno soft close one from B&Q. Cost about £20. Seems to be fine.

We have one from Wickes and it seems robust enough for us (DH is over 6 ft and about 14 stone to give you an idea of its, er, load).

We needed one with a soft close lid, as DS enjoyed slamming the lid on the old one, and that mechanism works beautifully.

It was £35, from memory, so not cheap but not silly money.

Thanks, both.

I think the main problem might be the loo itself is very old - the fittings of the old lid fitted perfectly, but the newer lid fittings are sort of multi-fit, rather than specific-fit.

NOT B&Q ones (Cooke and something, which I think is their own brand). We've had a series of those and they break after several months. It's the fittings that are a problem, not the actual seat.

Disclaimer: we are not obese, but the metal on the seats disintegrates under contact with urine (have boys with shockingly bad aim).

Oh! That might be why we are having problems now when I never did in the past! (Have a DS, who is way better than he used to be, but still...)

The one I've recommended has plastic rather than metal fittings.

I think I'll look for that, wow. One of the annoying things about the metal fittings is that it then takes me an age to get the broken ones free of the loo, as they rust shut in a trice.
