What if we can't move the day the builders want us to? Buying new build

Hi,
We are buying a new build house. Hopeing to soon get a moving date - we will get about 2 weeks notice apparently. However, most of the removals people are saying they are really booked up at the moment.

What will happen if we can't get removals for the day the housing developers say we should complete? Will there be some sort of penalty if we move later than they ask?

Keep calling round. There are lots of removal companies. We moved on the last Friday before Xmas at very short notice and had to do this. The lot we ended up with were crap but we got moved!

Yes, thanks. Hopefully we will find someone. I'm tyring to get details of as many as possible now, to make last minute ringing around easier! Hopefully some that are booked up now will loose some bookings due to chains falling apart etc, and be available when I phone again with a date!

Just want to be prepared for worst case scenario!

This whole process has been so stressful, we had better like the house. Never want to move again!!

Are you selling a house and needing to complete on that to buy the new build?

If you're in a chain then the completion date has to be mutually agreed by all parties.

If you're not in a chain and aren't selling you may have to complete and then move a day or so later.

Keep ringing though. A slot will likely open up as someone else releases a date they are holding.

Yes, selling so need to complete / move on same day. Fairly sure the contract (contracts been exchanged for ages) basically says the house builder gives us the date and we and our buyers have to go with it (with 2 weeks notice).
Just found out they are aiming at friday of bank holiday weekend - I can see it all going very wrong!!
But yes - will keep ringing around!

Hmm, we picked up our keys for our new build on a Wednesday but didn't 'move in' until the Saturday after, however we weren't selling so no chain.
Worth contacting the sales agent at the builder to see how strict this date is and if they can be flexibile on completion of contracts?

Not ideal but you could have your possessions moved out on the Thursday, stored and moved in on the Tuesday.

Friday's are the busiest day to move so hardest to find removers for. Fingers crossed for you.

Yes, that had gone through my mind LittleBear, would worry about it all going wrong (& imagine its an expensive option!) but could be a last resort plan! Feeling a bit better about it all now, had some more positive responses and have a few quotation visits lined up now.
