Seen our dream house...but so has everyone else

We've been house hunting for a while and yesterday I think I saw the one! Sadly, everyone else agrees, as it's already had four offers. We've put in the highest we can afford (which is not that much above asking price) and will find out tomorrow. I feel so on edge! I told myself I wouldn't get stressed about house buying and here I am like a total loser.

I am preparing myself for bad news but can't keep hoping that we could be the ones.

Has anyone else been in this position? this is our first house so I am a bit clueless.

I think it's such an emotional process because when you've seen 'the one' you envisage yourself and your family moved in and living the life.

We've been to sealed bids once on a house we fell in love with; we didn't get it, but along the line the buyers withdrew and we were offered it next. In the end we didn't go for it as we were already in the process of buying another house - the house we now live in - and the euphoria we felt when we originally saw it had worn off.

House buying can be such an emotional roller coaster. Good luck.

We were in the same situation and we got the house due to being chain-free, even though ours wasn't the highest offer. The whole buying process was incredibly nerve-wracking and I remember feeling totally obsessed with getting the house, but we got there and are now in our dream home. If we hadn't, I'd have been upset of course but would have told myself it wasn't meant to be and something else would come along. Good luck OP.

Thanks both. We are chain-free too so hoping that works in our favour but who knows? I am reminding myself of all the lovely things that I have in my life and that I don't need a stupid house to make me happy (but I will be so chuffed if it pans out!) Fingers crossed....

Oh, it's such a horrible gut wrenching feeling. We've been there twice; the first time it went to sealed bids and we were loads under last time we got into an awful bidding war but managed it.
Remember there's more than one dream house Flowers

Oh, we've been in bidding competition twice and sealed bids with 7 others once.

Ghastly experience. You have my sympathy!

We tried to make an offer to a dream house a few months back, I believe our are the second highest bid, and we were ready to proceed. However the vendor decided to go for the highest bidder, which was not immediately proceed-able and need to sell their house with the same agent.. Grrr.

Good luck
