I guess it depends on the width of your island and whether you plan to use it as s breakfast bar too. I wouldn't like to sit on a bar stool in front of a hob where a pan could spit on me. What are the alternatives though?

I have my butler sink in mine. It's nice because I seem to spend a lot of time at it and at least I am facing everyone!

hi, we have our hob in our peninsular (not island) which faces into the dining area of our kitchen diner. It's 120cms wide, and the other side of the peninsular is used as a breakfast bar. It's not problem.

I much prefer to have the hob there rather than the sink. I spend much more time at the hob than at the sink, as most of our dishes go in the dishwasher.

Are you me?? We are in the process too. I've decided to go for a bank of ovens down left side of extension. And an island to the right. I think I've decided to have the sink and dishwasher in the island. The only thing that worries me is if /when I can't be bothered to clear everything away it's all going to be display around the sink. Have you had any plans it designs drawn up yet OP? I have seen some ideas on Pintrest but can't find anything in RL

We are going for exactly same idea as you and are fitting our hob on our island which is 2m long and 90cm wideouts no seating or anything on other side of island

ive heard having a sink on the island is more difficult to keep tidy than a hob. im thinking of having waste disposal and a drinks fridge in the island too. Induction hobs seem to be the rage at the moment. not sure about seating as there will be a dining table directly in front of the island.im having low level units, no upper cupoards, having a walk in larder to keep everything in.

That was my concern 123rd, would look great when dishes are away but look messy if had to leave out dishes for any period of time, also like the idea if looking out onto living/dining area when cooking

We don't have our sink or hob on our island but do have a wine fridge and breakfast bar Smile. I would be concerned about the hob being there as they usually have a splashback for a reason. We also have no wall cupboards and a walk in larder Grin I have a pan rack on the wall next to the hob which is great for pans/colander/sieves etc. our island/breakfast bar also separates kitchen from dining area, but I do find people like to sit on the bar stools too.

We have a hob on our island (induction). I wouldn't put a sink or dishwasher on an island - they are too much of a magnet for messy dishes stacked next to or above them.

We have stools opposite the hob, but the island is wide so pans spitting etc is not an issue.

We will have a table opposite the island. But I think people will still want to sit at the island. We do have space for the sink to go under the window I just don't want the island to take up space.
What colour schemes have people gone for?

We looked into this and decided against the sink in the island and opted for the hob to go there instead. What was important was not having a hang down extractor as this would obstruct the view through to the garden so will be fitting a flush to ceiling extractor.

Couple of reasons, the island is going to be quite big so will be used a lot as a seating area and I did not want seats next to a sink which invariably will have dirty something in it plus the fact I wanted the dishwasher under sink and do not want any noisy-ish appliances within the island.

Our island will defintely be 3m long, but how wide should it be if I put a large hob in, to avoid the spitting on the poor people sitting on the stools?

I can go a bit crazy with a wok!

hmm, didn't think about fat splashes from pans etc, good point.

Our induction hob is in our island and it looks sleek and lovely. Our island is big enough that we can still have stools the other side.

Look at getting a flat ceiling extractor, so it doesn't hang down! Brilliant for island hobs.

Fat only splashes/spits a few inches, so won't hit someone the other side of the island assuming it's deep enough.

We gave granite work surfaces so can just wipe over after cooking.

Our extractor fan is flush to the ceiling.

Am thinking about this to and one option is to have higher cupboards on the half with the breakfast stools so its not as wide bit you won't see the stink directly from the other side which is where the dining table... My other option is to have going and stink on other wall and island/peninsula just as worktop...

Hob on island. Spend much more time at hob than at sink.

Can anyone recommend their flush to ceiling extractor? We have open plan living so it needs to be v effective!

I have neither hob nor sink in my island. I have breakfast bar seating one side and cupboards and a wine fridge under. I have a pop up power supply in the island. My island, while beautiful, is a dumping ground for everything! I wish I had a sink in it!!!!

my island has nothing other than the triple pop up socket
but the hob and oven face one side of it, the sink another (see pic on my profile)
so food is prepped or served from the island and served from the sides
its great for parties
