Kitchen Units for cream shaker - what ones to go for?

I am going to buy from DIY Kitchens after researching them thoroughly and reading lots of positive responses on here about them. I'm going for a shaker kitchen and have the following options to choose from. Would anyone be so kind to give me some further details please?

1. Foil Wrap MDF
   
2. Vinyl Faced MDF
   
3. Painted Vinyl MDF
   
4. Ash
   
5. MDF
   
   It needs to be child friendly and prone to lots of wiping down. For that reason, I presume painted Vinyl MDF would not be a good choice, as if the paint chips we're stuffed?

Of all of those, I would say don't buy foil wrapped mdf unless the doors are made are five panels wrapped individually then put together. Otherwise the foil can be prone to coming away from the mdf, especially on larger doors and close to heat sources, so next to the oven.

I guess that if you go for wood with the ash you have the option to have it lacquered and can paint it in the future for a different look. The mdf can be painted any colour you like and can be changed in the future too.

Thanks wow - is the vinyl wrapped MDF, the same potential scenario as Foil Wrap? Great for that heads up, will avoid those - shame as they're the cheapest - that's why though!

Will painted Vinyl MDF be OK do you think? I tend to really scrub the doors though, so that was a concern about paint chipping/blistering...

We have the Harewood kitchen which is oak doors in a painted finish and I think the carcasses must be painted MDF. DH managed to chip a tiny bit paint off the inside of a cupboard door and I just touched it up with F&B eggshell in the same colour and you can't tell. You do get a paint set with the painted kitchens for touch ups but I couldn't be bothered to read the instructions.

I've knocked the end panel and plinths with the hoover and it hasn't chipped so it does seem pretty hardwearing, no idea what DH did!

We have a Fulford tall cupboard in the utility which is vinyl faced MDF and the quality seems really good. The Broadoak kitchen is lovely, that has painted oak doors. We visited the showroom and all the kitchens seemed to be good quality.

Also if it is any of the Second Nature range you are interested in if you go on the Second Nature website it lists all the stockists so you could go and have a look. The Milbourne is nice and going off the Fulford cupboard we have in an oak finish I would be perfectly happy with that in cream if I hadn't wanted an inframe, painted style.

Glad to hear you're happy about DIY - they seem to be so well rated and so competitive! We're in the SE, so prob won't go to the showroom - will just order the sample doors.

We're not in our forever home, so I can't justify something too expensive as we'll be moving in 2 years (hopefully). I was planning on going for either

My concern with the latter is the chipping - two kids that have toys that constantly crash and bang into all my woodwork! Arrrggghhh

They're both lovely, if the Clayton did chip it's fairly easy to touch up, although given the knocks our kitchen has had I think it would be ok.

We happened to be on holiday in Yorkshire last summer so Dh and the kids got dragged along to the showroom. Our local Tecaz has the Milbourne on display, a lot of kitchen showrooms stock the Second Nature range if you did want to have a look.

I have spent days agonising over which kitchen to get from DIY-kitchens.
I ordered 5 door samples and thought the quality of all was great.
You can order them for about £7 each and get the money back when your kitchen is delivered. Worth doing as hard to tell from pictures.
We have ordered Broadoak painted F&B borrowed light. Don't know why as had to guess what it will look like, though did get paint sample of the colour.
Just hope I like it when it arrives, hopefully a week on Wednesday.

I am also thinking of buying a SN kitchen from DIY-Kitchens, was thinking of a bespoke paint colour, but was just wondering how these are cleaned, I am a bit of a clean freak and currently anti-bac all my kitchen doors on a weekly basis. I realise there is the risk of chipping, but more concerned about actual cleaning. Can anyone help?

With any kitchen doors that are painted, if they are knocked with hard objects, over and over again then over time they are going to get a few marks on them. With a real wood shaker door, the scuff marks can even add to the character of the door, well it seems to have done from all the images ive seen on Pinterest of people's kitchens!

I find when cleaning timber doors, you should use a solution that is 95% water and 5% soap and rub clean with a damp cloth. Then dry it off with a soft cloth straight afterwards. That should do the trick.

Then add layers of anti-bac until satisfied :-)
