Hello

I am an Italian guy living as a lodger for a London landlady for 3 years, I dont have a contract and the flat was NO DSS, which is fine by me. However in 2010 and again last year I had to register on the electoral roll to request a new bank account and a new credit card (I had real cashflow problems). I decided to register as a homeless person, that way the registration was only for a year and of course Im homeless for the council, so that wouldnt have upset the landlady.

Problem is, I actually didnt inform the landlady as she has moved to Nigeria for the time being and its hard to contact, I am paying rent to her mother and her partner (lets call them Gina and Gerald).

On Saturday I received a letter from the council addressed to me and the other tenant (who left 2 weeks ago) and with a debit card inside saying that we can use that to pay the rent ?????? I never received communications from the council on my name before that

This morning I had a slightly worried voicemail from Gerald, I called him back and he basically told me to forward this letter to him immediately
Whats up with this? Have I done something wrong? Surely the electoral roll has got nothing to do with benefits, even less so because I told them I am homeless? There are flats advertised out there with NO DSS and MUST BE ON THE ELECTORAL ROLL, so surely theyre not mutually exclusive??

What should I do? Can I be on the electoral roll in my circumstances? I've alwayd thought so

thanks
