Carpet beetles - what to do?!

DH and I live in a rental property with a fairly relaxed landlord - if we find a problem he's happy for us to sort it out and send him the bill. We were moving some furniture today and found, underneath a big old leather recliner, a patch of carpet that had clearly been chewed up by carpet beetles (we found pupae, larval moults, faeces, etc).

I was just wondering if anyone had any DIY solutions for what to do to knock an infestation on the head? We're probably going to dump the chair (we found a lot of pupae inside it so think it's probably infested or even the origin of the infestation) but what about the carpet? Are there any good sprays to use? Is it best to just remove the carpet? Has anyone had experience of carpet beetle infestations spreading?

I'd be very grateful for any advice!

Dump the armchair. Tell your landlord. You can spray to kill the beetles but you have to re-spray fairly regularly and hoover thoroughly. Lack of thorough vacuuming encourages the buggers. We had carpet beetle, and after three years they've gone. Due to ongoing DIY we haven't replaced the carpets so it was vital to eradicate them. If you replace the carpet, the underlay must be new, and the floor underneath thoroughly cleaned.
