Wooden bed frame recommendations

We are finally going to replace our ancient double bed frame and mattress with a king size. Does anyone have any recommendations of wood bed frames? We have oak bedroom furniture so would want something to go with that.

Also can you put any mattress onto a frame or are particular types recommended?

We are currently looking at beds. So far feather and black, John Lewis and loaf.com have designs that appeal to use.

But before you get into choosing I'd highly recommend reading all the advice on this amazing website so that you understand mattresses, bed frames, divans etc... Never bought from them but thinking about it this time round:

Don't buy a bed with a cheap base. I did for DS last year and have replaced countless slats, and even one inner side bar on which the slats sit. We've practically rebuilt the thing.

Thank you for the info - our current bed was a cheap one from Argos. It has lasted over 16 years with no problems with the base or slats. Mattresses are a minefield though!

Warren Evans have a nice selection. If oh d it quite a challenge getting a decent, nice looking wooden bed frame but these are great.

I treated myself to the Sunday bed from Warren Evans. I love it. A slanted headboard for sitting up in bed comfortably, all feels sturdy and I'm relieved to no longer be waking up with a sore back.

I am usually quite frugal about spending on furniture but am so pleased I bought this bed.

They have lots of other lovely looking frames too.

You can choose the finish and customer service is excellent.

unfortunately Warren Evans is no good to me as their showrooms are only the SE. They do have what looks like a good selection of bed frames though for anyone else who's looking.

We just had our new wood frame and mattress delivered on day before Christmas Eve.
We shopped all the big shops and ended up with a local shop (they only have two branches near us) a nice white painted wood frame with a Rest assured mattress on top. We tried out lots of mattresses in the show room and they also had lots of different frames on display. So I suggest you go local first and try out everything. Ours had the frame we got in Oak on display, but could order it in White if we wanted.

We're going out this pm to try out mattresses and find a frame we like. Muscat's link was really helpful re: mattress quality.
