shower panels - alternatives to tiles - do you have them?

I'm looking at these and there are widely varying prices, though all the warranties are for 10-12 years.

Does anyone have these? Which brand and are you happy with them?

Thanks for all help.

Yes we have them as got fed up of cleaning grout with tiles.

No idea the brand as we just picked from the samples the bathroom company provided. We have black with a subtle pattern and it looks good. Easy to clean and we use a karcher window vacum to get dry after showering. Will not go back to tiles.

We've just had these put in. Ours are by Wetwall, from our local bathroom showroom, but you can buy then direct online. We went for the travertine gloss. They are fab, just squeegee after showering, and no grout to clean. Ever.

Yes we have them, as I didn't want to be cleaning the grout in tiles and a shower is used quite a lot!

Not sure of make as we chose them in a tile showroom but I think they were £100?? Each panel we had 2.

Much easier to clean down.

But the next time I do my bathroom I'm getting A wet room!!!

As in the square shower enclosure, with the amount of water used the shower screen glass after a while is hard to get crystal clear(soap)
And the silver of the cubicle you have to keep wiping down in corners/up the sides.
Also the grout round the tray needs wiping down every time as it turns black eventually!! And as to be replaced.

By the way I'm not lazy, it's just you have to keep on top of it

Yes and I love them!
I hate tiles, just don't like the look of them and detest the way grouting attracts mould and dirt. The panels are a diddle to clean, just a quick spray and then a once over with a brush (cheapo dish brush cos the handle means you don't have to bend so far) rinse and done.

We have had a small wet room done downstairs with them -Grant Westfield Hydro-lock from our local plumbers- absolutely brilliant- being a small and dark room we chose white with glitter and plain white ceiling. Link is here www.grantwestfield.co.uk/products/PanelSystems/multipanel,linin.html
they were about £100 each, without any fittings.

We have slate effect boards in our shower and they are made by Mermaid. Absolutely love them! Really easy to clean and because they are matt finish, they don't show water marks (which would drive me insane!)

Slight hijack - I'd like shower panels (detest mouldy grout) but also need to tile a bath frame similar to picture - can shower panels be used on the bath frame too?

I can't see why not Chish - the panels are cut to size, and there are fittings for going round corners, into corners etc. Its a bit of a mind-blowing thing working out which bits you need, but you just need to be methodical.

We've got these panels in our main bathroom, diddle to clean have been in 4 years now with no probs , just about to instal glass effect acrylic in ensuite shower expensive but look nice, much thinner than standard panels

Ooh, I'm just thinking about getting these, and have some samples from Mermaid.

DH likes the glossy ones, but I'm worried you'd see watermarks. It's for the DC's bathroom, so I can't guarantee the shower will be squeegeed every time it is used.

Are the matte ones better for avoiding watermarks?

And Chish, apparently they can be used as bath panels.

Mine is glossy, with sparkly bits ( a bit like the quartz kitchen worktops) - you can't see any water marks on it - the water runs off very easily, barely had to do anything. Love my wet room, but I did end up putting a glass screen in it, as I didn't like having a wet toilet seat :)

we have them around the bath/shower. DH used the left over bits to make shelves
I think ours were wet wall. I hate tiles and mouldy grout. They are easy to keep clean
I think they were around £100 a sheet and we needed 4 or 5 sheets. Mine are very dark blue with whiteish specks
You don't see any marks on them

Thank you all.

I had been quoted c. £350 per panel, which was making me hesitate a little!
The prices that you have all mentioned are far more realistic, so feeling a lot happier!

Thanks! Off to look further at them :-)

Have they quoted the price to include the fitting perhaps? With my wet room, it took about 5- 6 panels if I remember ( about 6 months ago!) ) but it took 2 days to fit them in with all the faffing

But it has to be cheaper than having a room tiled?

Report

I have them, they are tiled effect, the strip was layed horizontially so looks like large beige tiles, with white gloss panelled ceiling, looks fab, throughout the whole bathroom -no grout, mould etc, and so easy to clean- no tiles kitchen either, would never go back to tiles!!

all most reassuring - we put them in our rental when we re-did the bathroom but haven't visited in a while. But hopefully these will be making life easier for the tenant. Planning them for our own shower.

much quicker to fit than tiles (Big pieces!) but you must use the correct glue and sealant and of course allow time to dry. But the actual 'doing stuff' time should be much less.
