Oak furniture - what flooring?

We've just bought some new furniture for our combined living and dining room from this range - www.marksandspencer.com/l/home-and-furniture/shop-by-range/living-room-collections/naseby-living-room-collection It's described as knotty oak with exposed joint details. We are trying to choose engineered wood or good quality laminate now to go with it but are as bit stuck. We thought maybe grey oak or a polished type to contrast with the cottagey furniture. Please help!

Sisal?

Unfortunately, the cats would think I had bought them one giant scratching board...

Ah yes they might.

Although I've had sisal in 3 different houses with 4 different cats and none have been interested.

It's not everyone's taste but it's good for the cottage look, as well as period houses.
