Removing gloss paint from a wooden chair

How do I go about doing this? I really want to make a good job of it.

It'll depend on the chair and it's design I think. If it's simple e.g. no small tricky areas to access you could do it with sander/sandpaper/hot air stripper (just be careful not to burn the wood).

But if it's not a simple design then you might be better with the chemical stripper you paint on which helps removal. You'll need somewhere outside to do this yourself or there are companies who'll do it for you!

I'm definitely not a DIY expert so hopefully someone cones along to confirm or advise correctly if I'm wrong

If your chair is made of softwood, it's worth googling 'cold dip stripping'. There will be a company not too far from you and doubt you will pay more than £25. Best to ring them first and check if they do furniture as if they are just stripping doors and mouldings, they may not be gentle enough with your chair. You need someone who is used to furniture as the process can strip the glue out of the joints if not done carefully. You will also need to wax heavily after to replace lost moisture. The process does leave softwood furniture a nice antique mellow colour though :)
