Please help me panic buy paint for my kitchen by Monday

We are having a new kitchen put in - it's Ikea Veddinge in grey, which is a fairly pale true grey (ie not secretly green like Howden's Burford Grey).

The room it's going into is fairly dark - we've built an extension on to the side and then knocked through a (wide-ish) open doorway and large open window/serving hatch. Extension has bifold doors and lantern and faces west so fairly light but kitchen is at the darker end. Kitchen also has a north-facing window and, when the door is open, some light from the utility room, which faces east.

Worktop is Ikea oak, floor also probably (laminate) oak, white tiles above the worktop.

Joiner has said he will paint the walls before he puts the units in, which is fab but means that I need to make a decision um now.

Originally planned v pale grey paint but think it might be too cold/samey. Then went sideways into off-whites but really struggling to find one plus extension will probably be Dulux Timeless and would like the rooms to be slightly different.

Am now on to greens but struggling to find the right one - Cooking Apple-ish but not too blue or too yellow or too bright or too childish

So far on my maybe list I have:

Fired Earth Oak Fern
Fired Earth Elizabeth's Parrot
Dulux Celtic Moor 3
Dulux Indian Ivy 6
Dulux Kiwi Crush
Dulux Melon Sorbet

Haven't actually seen any of these yet (need to get yet more testers tomorrow ... ) so if anyone has any experience of them I'd be interested in hearing how they look on the wall.

Also now currently thinking about pale blue though (again) find it hard to find the right one (bathroom currently Crown Platinum and I hate it, also hate utility room which is pale blue but going to repaint pale grey/off-white) - maybe something like Fired Earth Cirrus?

Dulux Natural Calico is a true cream that goes very well with grey. It's also cheap, so if you don't like it and want to change, you have not spent a fortune. It would lighten up the dark area.

I toyed with greys but found them a bit too cold and even the light ones didn't feel as bright as the cream.

From what you have described, it sounds like these colours could make it feel a little cold. I would tend more towards warmer colours.

Many of the colours that you have linked are very bright, how big is the wall being painted? I would use most of those for a statement rather than a background colour. And I'd have to truly love them!

The one thing I will say from experience is choose the colour you think you would like and then go several shades lighter. They always look a lot more imposing over a whole wall!

I have tried a test patch of white with a hint of grey, it is awful. I am doing Manor house Grey which is lovely in the test patch.

I would go for Elephant's Breath by Farrow and Ball. Lovely shade of grey. Soften the look up with some lovely Roman blinds in a nice patterned fabric.

I think we have Natural Calico in our (soon to be repainted) living room and I hate it, too Magnolia-y for me, sorry.

I have Dulux Jasmine White (nice clean cream) as a test patch atm but it isn't very different from the white tiles and I was looking for more of a contrast.

Would be for four walls, but they all have doors or windows in them plus units. Plus kitchen is kind of one end of much bigger room which will be off-white, if that makes sense.

I'd go for something a bit more contemporary such as mostly white walls with a couple of pale lemon or tangerine walls and crisp white paintwork.

Your first or last suggestion in the op would look good with grey. I'm not keen on blue in a kitchen, it doesn't seem right somehow.

I did wonder about a pale lemon yellow, I know it goes well with grey but not living it. Also already have a pale creamy yellow on the stairs.

Beware Jasmine White if you want cream - we have it in our bedroom and it is a very definite pale greeny blue! (Which is fine for us but highly I'd warn you!)

Ooh that's useful re Jasmine White. It looked quite yellowy this afternoon but blue-green would make more sense with the name jasmine. Though maybe blue-green good with pale-grey?

Any experience of Almond White anyone? What's the undertone to that one?

Almond White was my favourite for years - had it everywhere. It's a more browny shade of apricot white i.e. not so orangey. Almond White wouldn't go with the grey IMO.

Be careful you don't get a 'sandwich' effect of floor Colour1 units Colour 2 and walls Colour 1.

Almond white - was reading through and going to suggest it! It's my fallback white being warm and pretty much going with everything.

In theory the undertone is pink, but you certainly don't see any of it , it's just a lovely non-yellow cream

Thanks Gill. I'm looking at greyish mushroomy colours a bit because in store they had a similar colour on the walls with the Veddinge grey and it was very nice, warm and calm. Was obviously under indoor lighting with no natural light though, that might change things a bit.

And yes, trying to avoid anything too similar to the unit colour.

We haw a grey kitchen and Greeny blue tiles and went with laura ashley Eau de Nil which is a beautiful sea green colour as a feature wall (dining kitchen) and Crown milk white elsewhere (creamy white)

I would go for either Strong White by F&B - a v v v v pale grey which will tie everything together; greys in north facing light with sandy warmth in the easterly light.

Or for fresh subtle green hues Cabbage White.

the melon sorbet is the closest to the ikea picture IMO . and that looks lovely - so if that's the look you are trying to achieve - that's the colour is suggest !

I have used Pointing by F and B with my Lamproom Grey kitchen units. I have a very light kitchen and this is a softer colour than it looks on their web site. I also think Slipper Satin would be good. I would steer away from blues or greens or yellow hues. The off white colours are more calming and reflect light well. I am glad I have a naturally lit kitchen and I moved it from a dark area of the house. Can't stand lights on to work all the time.

Sorry Lana I checked and I got it wrong - we had Jade White in our bedroom! I must have been trying both and forgot which one is actually gone for!
