Lunastone vs Silestone

Do you have a Lunastone worktop? Is it really the same as Silestone? Is it hardwearing (am planning a pale colour with mirrored flecks)?

It is so much cheaper I find it hard to believe it is the same.

Almost all quartz are like for like, Silestone etc is more branding but it does have the added extra of anti bac built in to it.
This is not needed with quartz really and doesn't make it worth the extra £'s
others to look at are technistone, compac, + caesarstone (just under the cost of silestone) and Arena stone, diresco
The properties of the quartz are very similar.
My dh does kitchens and the price from luna to silestone can be 1000's

Wow. I didn't realise there were so many. Research fail! Thanks v much - that's this evening's activity sorted. Web, wine, cross-eyed trying to spot the differences.

Got any recommendations / ones to avoid?

Who does the installation? Kitchen fitter or worktop supplier?

worktop supplier should do the install, some offer supply only depending who you find but always go with someone that offers an all in so your covered by them
none to avoid really, all goes on what colour your looking for.
if you can find what you want with Luna and Silestone does the same colouring, go with what is better for your pocket as they all give the same guarantees almost
the only down side of Luna stone is they dont offer as much choice as the others but this is why they are cheaper as the buy in bulk.

how much is the Luna stone? I'm struggling to find prices online

I phoned Lunastone for a price. They were nice. No hard sell. Didn't even take my contact details to harass me later.

We're having about 8.5m (!) of worktop in varying widths with a bunch of cut outs and up stands. It is a large somewhat oddly shaped room. They've quoted under 3k including VAT.

Ooh looks lovely which colour did you go for? Does that price include delivery/fitting?

That price included fitting. It is a bloody good price.

I will probably choose Bianco Luminos, which is white with mirror flecks. All the ones I like are the same price.

Am dithering horrendously over colour to paint cabinets / walls and thus over the worktop colour.

The cabinets might be LG Bone China Blue or LG Gauze Dark. Or maybe something more greige. Or maybe a very light grey. I have lost the ability to make a decision.

Definitely Little Greene paint thanks to MN wisdom.

I like the look of darkish base cabinets with paler walls but am also considering a bold wall colour with pale neutral base cabinets because it is hell of a lot cheaper and easier to change the wall colour later than the cabinet colour. And what if I choose the wrong colour? Realistically, I won't be able to justify changing the cabinets for a good 10 years (maybe 5). That's a long time to regret. I could go on and on dithering for hours, days, weeks. What has this kitchen stuff done to me?!

Love the sound of your kitchen fancy!

What kitchen makers are you using?

I am going to have a pale gray with white/ggray granite or silastone. My brother makes kitchen in Australia & he recs silastone. Will check his opinions on lunastone.

I would recommend Silestone every day of the week compared to the competitors. All quartz is made using the same process. Its the composition of the mix that determines quality and this is where silestone score. Being a larger company there is much greater consistency in their quality and colour matching. They are also very good on customer service compared to the competition so I wouldnt buy other brands on price alone. If Silestone dont have the colour you want, by all means buy another brand, but remember that lesser brands may not give you the service backup in the event of a problem.

I ordered direct from the Luna stone website came within two days too.

I ordered Luna stone quartz worktop direct from them after reading the reviews here and it was fitted two weeks ago.

I paid £2.5k for a 6m worktop run + 2m long breakfast bar / island. This was their most expensive worktop.

I got quotes for Luna stone from 3 local suppliers and they all quoted around £3.5k.

If you live near Welwyn, I would definitely recommend visiting the factory as the small samples they post out are definitely not representative at all of the full slab. The small samples all seem "perfect" with no marks / patterns. When we visited the showroom, a number of full sized slabs had markings and patterns on them.

Lunastone will cover fitting across the whole of the UK.

We're getting a quartz worktop around our sink area & I find it a minefield deciding which brand to go for, can you possible give advise on how yours has performed & where the factory is near Welwyn?
Thank you for any help or option you have on this material.

Hi, my Lunastone worktop still looks as good as the day it was fitted and doesn't have a single mark, scratch or dent 3 years on. Their website is here which has the address and opening hours of the showroom. They will also email you a quote if you complete the form with your dimensions:
