Traditional looking Bi-folding doors - where do I find them?

Hello!

I found some bi-fold doors I like the look of - more traditional orangery style, than the aluminum bi-folds being sold everywhere. I've only managed to find this one place that sells the kid of look I'm after e.g. www.joinerybytownandcountry.co.uk/page02.html or www.joinerybytownandcountry.co.uk/page06.html

I've had a quote and they're too pricey :( I wondered if anyone might know of other companies that might make similar cheaper?

Thanks :)

they appear to be painted wooden doors from a fashionable supplier.

The track mechanism for that kind of door, and skilled fitting, is vital to a good job. You may need a specialist installer who knows how to measure and cut. I am not in touch with good brands of the mechanism. I understand some are scandinaian.

You can probably find lower prices at a general joinery supplier, but I don't know how to tell if the mechanism is a good one. Ask around for a good local installer. have a look at Magnet or Howdens (their trade prices are secret)

there are some here

I've just been through this.

I wanted these, but the quote came in a £6.5K

We have got a local joiner making them for a lot less.

I especially like the glazing in that German window

"4mm toughened glass/16mm gas filled gap/6.4 laminated glass"

6.4mm laminated is burglar-resistant enough to satisfy me.

Thanks pigletjohn - I hadn't given a whole lot of thought to the mechanisms, though I know timber is definitely much more of a pain in a bi-fold situation. So will look into that thank you! I have looked at Magnet and Howdens, but they have the same profile shape as the aluminum doors. Good point on laminated glass too!

That's exactly the kind of thing I'm after Eastwickwitch - can I be nosey and ask what length of run was the 6.5K and did it include fitting? Its still some 30% less than the quote I had from Town & Country!! Are you local to the German window & door company?... as I am, and wondered who your joiner might be?! :)

Hi, I have no idea about bi-fold doors myself... but I know a man that does Grin My dh runs a Joinery so happy to point you in his direction if you're looking down the local joiner route. I just had a look where the German window company is and my dh's company covers your area (and btw I can highly recommend his doors Grin ) This is his fb page which has a link to his website. Hth!

Mumford & Wood do trad bi-fold doors, though I've no idea how much they cost. The fact that you can buy them off-the-peg in the more popular sizes may mean that prices are lower than bespoke.

PS I love that a man called Wood runs a joinery!

sophie, 4.2m including the sidelights. Fitting not included.

Sorry I'm not in your area, but there seem to be lots of good joiners about.

Thank you lovemyscarf - unfortunately your hubby is too far for me.

They look just the ticket too thesaurusgirl, unfortunately just a 3M run is over 6k! Too pricey :( Great name for a joiner!

Thank you eastwickwitch I will give them a call for a quote, I need a them a bit wider than yours
