Rather stylish extractor fan - but will it work?

I don't like kitchen canopy style extractor fans but thought this one might look ok as it looks like a light. Will it work as well though?

That is not an extractor it just recirculates the air. Avoid!

I was talked out of these by the company that designed my kitchen.
An hour on the Internet and speaking to two people who had similar models and I was convinced.
They look lovely - don't work.

This is a fancy and expensive light fitting that just recirculates air. And its not very well made either.

Thanks I now realise that we need an extractor fan.

kmdesign - it's not so much I want a fancy one I just don't like the hoods that are everywhere. Some of those look rather nice so I will get prices for them. I'd rather have something that looks like a light than something that looks like an oven hood.

How about one that sits flush to the ceiling - Siemens do one, I'm sure others do. Cost about £1,000 though.

We didn't have one in our last kitchen. It was fine, just opened the window now and then. I really hate how they look and they just don't seem to make any bleeding difference. If we had one, it would be one of those that sits in a wall cupboard out of the way most of the time. But in our new kitchen I'm leaning towards NOTHING.

Some nice ones there MrsTara. I didn't realise there were so many options so I'll have to find out about all the different types and what we need (but I know it's extraction now!)

I've got the Siemens flush ceiling one. It's very good and looks fab. But yes was ££££.

Dimsum, so does it fit in to the top of the kitchen ceiling??

If so, I suppose that only works depending on how high your ceilings are? How much was it?

Heat rises - so doesn't matter how high your ceilings realistically - although might take longer ,because of the higher volume, in a 4m high room I suppose !

flush ceiling hoods need to be 1.5mtrs max above worktop level to work really, most manufactures state this or there will be no point having one

luckily most homes have approx 2.4m heigh ceilings and approx .9m high hobs then !! :-)
