Just that really, I've always thought it was south facing but are there orhers that are good? Assuming you want a warm sunny garden Grin

it all depends on the length and surroundings. we had an east facing...never again! depressing losing the sun in the evening. also had a south facing garden and it was unusable on a sunny day in summer (nice for drying washer in winter though)

we now have a longer,50 foot, south easterly garden and it's perfect. Sun all day with fruit trees in the borders giving nice dappled shade.

If the garden is small, then it would have to be west or north-west.

Had a west facing. It was lovely. South is frequently just too hot for my taste.

This always wrecks my head... Which is the "face" of a garden? (Nb, thats not a criticism of your wording, i just can't process what it means) The back of our house points about SSE, if that's what you mean. In fact, sounds very similar to mrslady's... 50 ft, small trees around the boundaries, sun on the patio and back of house all day, and on the back of the garden in the evening. It's perfect, in my opinion.

Our back garden faces south east which is nice for the summer. We lose the sun by about 6pm in summer though. As we live near the Pennines too much heat isn't an issue for us.

I like SW best. I'm not much of a morning person, and I like the evening sun.

It does depend on what is around it and its shape and so on, of course.

Had a small west facing. It was a sun trap but really too hot. There was no escape in summer and it was oppressive, and I love the sun.

Just moved to a long north facing. Had sun all summer but with plenty of shady spots, haven't done winter in it yet. It is stuffed full of beautiful plants and fruit trees though so it must get plenty of light! I love it.

We've got a north facing back garden which gets the sun until about 7pm in the summer. Only gets any sun on half of the garden in the winter and the shaded end gets waterlogged. But it's not really a problem because it dries out again in the spring. Now the front is baking - I'm sure I could grow grapes there. Grin

I like west-facing for evening sun, we had east-facing before and it was lovely in the mornings but more difficult to grow things near the house

We also have a North facing garden - and it is great.
ie looking out back door we are facing North.
Garden is long and goes up him so it gets sun all day / all year with some shade.
We do not get the waterlogged- damp problem, but I know that can occur in some gardens.

East - we keep sun until about 8pm in the summer as its long.

It now has a bog garden in the middle so that there is a drainage option for the remainder.
