Which paint would you have to use?

not successfully.

I am going to guess the old one is scratched or chipped, is that right?

What size and shape is it? Does it have cut-outs or a sink?

How does it join to the wall? Tile down, laminate upstand, or plastic strip, or bead of silicone?

Oh boo Sad it's in good condition, just looks a bit dated. L shaped, sink and silicone

although there is no limit to the amount of money you can spend if you wish, a new laminate worktop can cost as little as £30 for 2 metres.

you can get solid wood ones at £90 for 3 metres.

They are quite heavy and they need TCT saws to cut. Silicone edging, or plastic strip, are easy.

Simple square-cornered rectangular tops are easier than fancy shapes.

Oh thanks, I didn't think it would be so cheap. I have a tiny kitchen, I could probably replace it.
