All you developer types - where do you get your bathrooms?

So we have done up two homes (4 bathrooms) before but homes we lived in, not done for development, we have used expensive bathroom fittings and not expensive (bathstore.com).

The expensive bathroom held up really well,but I can't say the same for the bathstore stuff, I was not impressed.

We are now living in a house that needs extensive refurbishment, but we have realised that we don't really like where it is and now think we will not live here for as long as we thought, (maybe 2/3 year instead of 7/10 years) so the plans for really swanky bathrooms (we need 3) have been reduced to something nice but more basic.

I know what I like and it usually has a lot to do with the feel of the fittings, so I'm finding internet searches really difficult.

Can anyone point me towards good quality nice clean lined design bathroom fitting that don't cost the earth, that I could actually go and see?

Tbh, I think one mid-range bath tub or shower tray looks very much like another so, as long as they are not made of such thin plastic that they buckle under weight, then I tend to go on price. I buy a lot by shopping on line and tend to choose, as I said, quite ordinary baths and shower trays but search for nicer looking (not necessarily expensive) taps and shower mixers and also basins (I think bathstore do quite nice basins).

I think the best thing you can do in a bathroom to give it a quality finish is get good (again, not necessarily very expensive - I rarely spend more than £20 a metre) tiles and cover all the walls, a row around the sink and bath just looks mean.

I've bought tiles online and saved loads of money but would like to know where to get a good value bathroom suite from.

Has anyone used Better bathrooms or Victoria Plumb?

I used a local company for my ensuite and it was lovely but quite expensive.

I'm not a developer, just slowly doing up my house.

TBH most developers would buy through a trade account with a manufacturer or wholesale supplier - and they get access to a trade account because they spend a min amount each and every month - rather than just buying once in a blue moon for one project, so you are either going to have to get friendly with a developer and see if they will tack on an order for you - but in all reality they will need to add a markup if it goes through their accounts - that's just business ... There's plenty of online places - but try looking for ex displays in local showrooms if you want a deal and to be able to 'try before you buy' ... Hope that answers your question ! :-)
