Just wondering what your views are on having the same colour walls and flooring throughout a house??

I think it can look really fresh but am worried it might be too bland.

Some people love that kind of thing. I'd get bored with it.

I wouldn't be too keen on it throughout the whole house. We have same through hall, stairs, landings and kitchen/diner which are open plan so it makes sense to have one colour scheme; but then our bedrooms, bathroom and living room are different. It depends on your house really, the size, the layout and if you have different flooring - you don't want a whole hotch potch of different colours etc but on the other hand I think having the whole house the same (unless quite small) would be a bit much as well.

It's the hotch potch thing that bothers me! I hate looking on landings / hallways and seeing 7 different types of floor.

BUT - I've lived in rentals where it's all the same throughout and you don't really get the proper feel for a room's purpose IYSWIM.

Hmm.

We're doing a full renovation in our house. We've gone for the same walls, carpet and curtains in the hall, stairs, landing and all bedrooms. We went for magnolia walls, mid brown carpet and dark brown curtains. Downstairs will have more colour.

I have the same colour throughout the whole house.

Crown - Ivory Cream.

Makes my life easy for redecorating . Grin

But I have different curtains in rooms & different pictures etc.

You will be amazed how different a colour can look according to the light.

I like to have the same/similar wall colour throughout as a base for curtains/artwork. I have some huge canvases that are best on a fairly neutral background.
I tend to like wood floor throughout for downstairs - practical
And a neutral carpet upstairs. Colour can be added with rugs, pictures, cushions, curtains etc.
Most of the rooms in our old house looked completely different but used different lighting & accents.
Paint/wallpaper is not the only way of decorating a room.

I think it depends on the size of a house. In a one bed flat, it can work, in a five bed, it can look a bit clinical. Does of course depend on decor as wonkylegs says

DEFINITELY the same carpet all the way through. Kitchen/bathroom/rooms with floorboards obviously fine - it's just the patchwork of carpets I don't like. The house will feel bigger with the same flooring throughout as much as possible.

We have the same colour throughout the house for all the woodwork/windows/picture rail/ceilings. Although our rooms in this house are different colours, I'd definitely consider using the same colour all the way through with our next project.

We have the same colour throughout and same carpets, but the rooms are completely different. As the carpets and walls are neutral the colour of the rooms comes from what's in it, such as sofas, curtains, rugs, bedspreads etc. Although the kitchen floor is tiled and there are floorboards in the hall, but where there is carpet it's the same.

Those of you with the same carpet, what kind have you got?

I'd love floorboards throughout but DH thinks it'll be too drafty (4 bed 5 reception rooms).

My sister has wooden floors with all the same kind of laura ashley rugs but different colours to match each room . Blue in lounge, duck egg in the kitchen and rusty colour in the hallway and the walls are all Egyptian cotton but it seems to pick up the colours from the rugs and the lamps and looks slightly different in each room . But I know is it's all the same paint as DH and I helped paint!!!
