inherited plain dark blue curtains - struggling with colour scheme

Can anyone help? They are in our bedroom and yes they were for our ds but he now has lovely replacements that he chose himself. We were desperate for decent curtains and so are now using them but I am struggling to make the room lovely with them. I don't like bright for the bedroom I like calming.

Have light wooden furniture and so painted the walls dulux roman stone which looks slightly more peachy than stone! I bought a bright cheerful colour (stripes) duvet but still the curtains dominate. Can anyone help? Please don't tell me to change the curtains they are interlined and everything so can't.

Find some accessories (throws, cushions, vases, lamps, picture frames etc) that pull in the dark blue of the curtains. Then the curtains will look as if they belong. The rest of the room can be quite light or neutral.

You could paint the room dark blue to match the curtains and then they would blend in. Cave-like cosy. My bedroom is dark grey with black blinds and it is lovely and calming. I have lighter carpet and white bedding, so not too dark in there.

I've just decorated with a navy, grey and yellow theme which I was worried about but it actually works.

Could you sew on a panel of fabric to break it up?

I love teal and cream with navy. That's what is in our master bedroom.

Search Navy Blue bedroom on Pinterest and get some inspiration! Check out TK maxx I just got a lovely white Indian cotton throw with navy block pattern on it.

Navy and off white can look very calm and sophisticated.

Thanks everyone. I have thought about sewing on a panel of fabric but wonder about the two pulling each other and ruining the fabric fall. I will check out suggestions above and thanks 've suddenly realised that I've been fighting against the blue and need to embrace it Grin.

navy, teal and gold

Rich peacock feather kind of colours. Cream or any shade of teal or even navy wall or walls depending how light the room is.

I used to have deep navy almost oriental wallpaper in our bedroom, but it was a south facing room. So dark and romantic at night, but chearful in the day. Same colour in the north facing spare room would have been depressing.

we have the same. I did white walls and dark wood vaguely Moroccan. Big plants. In fact have introduced some purple and that has worked well too.

Getting really into it now thanks everyone. Wish you could all drop in to sort out the family room next. Dare I add - very small room bland with furniture that we can't afford to replace one massive cream sofa (massive because it fills the room) and so got cream curtains to avoid too much of a clutter mess. Hate it now. Too boring and old. Looked at Ikea for cheap replacement furniture but getting nowhere. Thinking maybe I could splash out on colourful curtains after all but can't find any that are really good. So for now we have colourful cushions which are on the floor as it's too hot!
