Potton/doable with current mortgage?

Hi,

Before I put my idea to DH, I wanted to find out a bit about self build and mortgages.

There is a plot near to us, ideally situated with full PP for a 4 bed detached dormer house. The price of the land is ok as long as we get a good priced self build plan.

I've looked at Baufritz and just love the German design (used to live in Germany) but think they might be more pricey.

We currently own our own home and don't think we could afford to sell it and live somewhere else whilst building.

Is there a way of buying the plot and self build home whilst still having our mortgage here (perhaps taking a mortgage holiday for a year etc), whilst we build the new home and put current one on the market?

Does anyone know some really low priced self build companies - Potton (a few yrs ago) had a design that would have been about 70000 but prices are way above that now I assume!!!
