Out of interest are there any leftie/arty Guardian reading non daily mail places to live within reasonable commuting distance of London? Can only think of Brighton. Rest more DM zone e.g Sevenoaks, TW etc. where do the lefties go??

TW is full of leftie Guardian readers. Not that it matters ...

OH MY GOD!

Erm......Scotland? What on earth kind of question is that? Isn't Boris a Conservative, anyway?

Are you looking to avoid them?!
Is hat you Nigel?

Well Scotland is the obvious one, Wales second.

You need arty places like Glastonbury, Bournemouth, maybe Derbyshire ? round Matlock? St Ives?

Sevenoaks??? Are you kidding? I once had to trudge around four shops to find a copy of the Guardian there. In WH Smith they told me they only ever ordered two copies as no one bought it.
Bristol is very lefty-friendly.

Get a helicopter and move to Barnsley Grin. You can't get more left wing than Barnsley.

Oxford is pretty leftie liberal, but expensive, and bits of it are overprivileged but well-meaning (might get on your wick).

I'd second Bristol - we're full of lefty-liberal-green types here (Ukip got nowhere in the elections last week, but the greens got two new councillors) - but it's actually 1hr45 mins to London if the trains are running OK (frequently not the case) so a bit much for a daily commute.

Maybe Cambridge? Much shorter journey time.

What Bunbaker said. Although tbh you could cut 10 miles off your commute and stop at Sheffield. But if you've go a helicopter, then Holmfirth and other outlying towns and village of Huddersfield, Halifax, Hebden Bridge and Todmorden aren't too far.

of course the population of towns is segregated according to their politics and the paper they read.

What a strange question. Surely there are a mix of people in all areas within striking distance of London?

Grin Hampstead? Peculiar question. Diversity is good.

Lewes in an hour away and quite lefty.

Obviously the post is tongue in cheek. My mum was as left wing as you could be, but we lived in a Tory enclave and I still don't vote Tory.

Cambridge...Cheltenham(Libdem)/bits of Gloucester...Whitstable...Farnham (?)...Reading...Oxford...

Lovely Bristol, definitely. Hebden Bridge I think burns Tories for kindling, after turning their skins into open toed sandals, but it's not commutable.

We live in a Tory enclave too and we're lefties. We have been snubbed by many for this and find it very funny.
