About to kit out new kitchen - which brands are most reliable for the major appliances?

We are moving house and have no "white goods". I need to get a washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher, fridge freezer (american style), double oven and induction hob.

I want to get appliances which are good value, rather than cheap, ie: which will be reliable and work for a fair time with minimal repairs and breakdowns. I'm happy to spend more on something that will work out better in the long run. Which makes are best currently for that? Are German brands still the best? I've been thinking of getting AEG as I've always found them to be good. I've also been very happy with Bosch in the past but am told that their quality has slipped a lot recently.

Howdens are trying to sell me Lamona but I'm not impressed.

We have de deitrich and have been good. Warranty is good too. Paid £26 a year for it once manufacturers one ran out and when something went wrong with fridge freezer came out 4 times till properly fixed. Oven been fab for cakes too.

Miele, if you can afford the initial investment. They often come with very long warranties as well.

I've had Neff in rental properties before and been happy with it. Our current rental has de dietrich stuff which is broken but from our experience of the landlord it is probably 20+ years old and recycled.

We can afford Miele if it's worth the extra. I have seen a fridge freezer from them which looks like it has excellent capacity in relation to the external dimensions so I'm very tempted. What makes Miele better? Better performing or longer lasting?

I have an LG American-style fridge-freezer which I am very happy with so far (4 years iirc) - the runners for the salad drawer have broken a bit but I think that's down to heavy-handed teenage boys

have a Neff oven, which works very well, but keeps getting dirty

d/w & w/m are Bosch, both ok so-far-touch-wood but I know what you mean the brand not being what it was. I would love to get Miele but they are at least twice the price (BUT do seem to come with long warranties often)

Avoid AEG like the plague. Our AEG dishwasher, which cost about £600, broke after 14 months. AEG refused to do anything about it other than tell us to spend £260 on an extended warranty as apparently 'AEG products are only built to last for a year' - this is from the mouth of an AEG employee

Avoid indesit. Seems to break really quickly. We have three indesit things snd none of them work as they should.

my LG will be the older equivalent of \link{http://www.appliancesonline.co.uk/product/GWB207FSQA-LG-American-Fridge-Freezer-Stainless-Steel-19693.aspx\this one} - I didn't bother with a water/ice dispenser because a) they take up a lot of useful freezer space & b) it's across the kitchen from the plumbing

If I could have afforded Miele everything, that's what I would have bought - they are built to last a lifetime! My retired neighbour is German and I am slightly envious of all her Miele appliances. As it was, I settled for a Miele washing machine & vacuum cleaner (which I already owned prior to having a new kitchen) and the majority of my new kitchen appliances are Neff Series 5. I have this Samsung American Fridge Freezer which I love.

Miele - built to last, and to be fixed rather than thrown away.

We have a Bosch washing machine. It's 20 years old and is in perfect working order. Also Bosch dbl oven an inbuilt microwave, good.
We have Fisher and Paykel fridge freezer, also good.
Smeg hob and sink, all good.

I have both Neff gas and induction hobs - the 60cm flexinduction one and a single but very powerful 30cm gas wok burner so that I can have the best of both worlds. In retrospect, the only appliance I might have put more research time into was the double oven. I did get a Neff one but I do wish that I had bought a de dietrich pyrolytic one instead but it was too late - we had already installed it by the time I spotted it.

AEG is simply electrolux. AEG 20 years ago were fab. AEG now are shite.

ggirl - what's wrong with your Miele fridge freezer? It would be very interesting to get a negative opinion on Miele.

I didn't know AEG were Electrolux.

Last year Which had an offer where you could join for £1 for the first month. Might be worth doing it and then cancelling at the end of the month for an idea of their best buys.

Bosch and Miele are both very reliable as everyone else has said!

Our Miele dishwasher is the only fitted appliance that's coming with us when we move as I love it so much. Not only is it fab and reliable but it's really easy (&clever) to fit.
My Bosch washing machine has also been really good and is extremely quiet.
Avoid SMEG like the plague - original SMEG dishwasher caught on fire!

My smeg oven and hob are wonderful. DO get a pyrolitic oven, you'll regret it if not. It's lifechanging

Fridge freezer is Samsung and spage agey and I love it. It's huge inside without being huge outside, frost free, easy to control the temp and has a cold drawer for meat.

Washer dryer is LG and brilliant. We have had to have it serviced every year because teh inside fills up with fluff but I think that's par for teh course with washer dryers, it's by far the best one we've had.

We got neff appliances (gas hob, oven, extractor) partly for reputation, partly because we could save money by getting all 3 from the same manufacturer and partly because they were the ones we liked the design of the best. Pleased with our choices although possibly would have gone for a higher spec oven.
