We have one of the awkward boxes over the stairs in our small bedroom. It takes over a good bit of space and apparently cannot be moved. I was thinking of having a cabin type bed built over the 'box' with storage underneath. I would love to hear from anyone who has done similar re success and cost etc. Thanks smile

my dh did that to our box room 2m x 2.15m
built under storage (ivory gloss) and on the other side a 3/4 height wardrobe with a set of drawers and walnut worktop wrapped round it with walnut floating shelves.
looks fab for the size of the room and makes it look like an actual room that can be used

I saw a really good idea on that app Houzz where they made 4 cabin type beds in the smallest space. It actually looked cool.

We have the same thing in one of our bedrooms so we have turned it into a walk-in-wardrobe/dressing room. DH made built in cupboards over the stairs and a hanging rail between the two walls. It works well.

We are looking at buying a house which has a box room like this and I found a link to a company that will custom build cabin beds like you are looking for on an old MN thread. I haven't used them myself yet though and was thinking of asking a local carpenter as well.

My neighbour did this in his house, (we didn't have children at the time so used ours as a walk in wardrobe)

Worked really well as you still get the length of the room above the slope.

If you or someone you know is a bit handy then Ana White makes beds and posts all the plans, wood requirements and cutting guides on her website.

Have a look here at this one it will give you an idea of what you need but if you search all of her plans she makes amazing beds fire engine bed anyone?
