Is it normal for roofing companies to quote without scaffolding costs?

Thanks ExhaustTed. It does seem logical to me that you would include a ball park cost for scaffolding, so thanks for confirming that! If we paid the scaffolding company direct that would work well, as we have other things (windows) that could be done while the scaffolding was up.

We did our roof about 18 months ago and it was the first building type thing we had ever done so I went a bit mad on the quotes. I had about 7 companies come and visit , and I think most of the quotes included a "ball park" figure for scaffolding. In the end the company we went for were absolutely brilliant and they added an approximate cost for the scaffolding in the first quote, and then before we went ahead we had a detailed cost. The roofer organised the scaffolding for us and we just paid the scaffolding company direct.
Our roofer wasn't overly keen to do the building work such as the chimney repairs, but he helped us get it sorted.

This www.roofingtoday.co.uk might be helpful.

Thanks all - that's helpful. Still puzzled by the way this company changed their tune, but that's possibly a good reason to avoid them.

I have a feeling that if you don't get scaffolding from a specialist company, you need to get the scaffolding officially inspected and signed off once it is up. They should be p front about it though.

we recently had a roofing quote. the scaffold quote came from a different company (specialist scaffold comp).

We had building work which required scaffolding. The quote was sans scaffold, but they'd said it would be. They could have sorted scaffolding for us, but actually it was cheaper to sort that side ourselves. There was no problem with getting the two companies to work together vis a vis dates etc, just gave our builders the scaffolders phone number.

You know, I hate at least some of them too. Have just taken dog out on a walk and taken out my frustrations at BASTARD roofers by kicking defenceless stones. Regard some of them as kicked for you.

Yes, that's what I thought. Was a major roofing company we asked too: does public as well as private work. Very odd.

I had a new roof last year the quote included everything (scaffolding, replacement timbers, chimney re pointing, tiles and a velux window, All came to £7k

Asked a roofing company to quote for roofing work, including some building work (re-building parapets) and, obviously, scaffolding. They have now turned round and said, after keeping us waiting for a quote, that they don't do building work and they don't quote for scaffolding. Is this normal?

I haven't had any roofing work done for a few years, but when I did the scaffolding was included.
