Installing CCTV?

Has anybody successfully installed CCTV outside their home, I'm aware we can't take recordings of neighbours etc, so it would be used purely on our cars.

We have had the tyres nailed again! The first time was when we sold privately nails were in the front pair, picked up by the garage. The next time we got up one morning to notice it appeared as if a chunk had been cut away from one of the tyres, no idea if that happened outside the house as my husband had driven back late the night before.

Today my car has gone in for service and they have found 2 nails in the back 2 tyres which were only replaced before Christmas.

I'm ringing our local community police officer tomorrow.

Any idea how it can be done, what sort of CCTV we should look at and costs. My husband is away with work and i want it sorted as soon as I can.

Many thanks.

How worrying to have nails in your tyres!

I had my car broken into on my drive and it was the driving force behind us putting CCTV into our home.

We live on a normal newish build estate but we have no immediate neighbours due to the position of our house and our house is on an angle to the road so it is very private, ie we don't face the road at all we are at a 90 degree angle. The previous people to us had a camera at the front but took it when they moved and we had never got round to replacing it.

So my Dh went to a CCTV shop and asked their advice on it, ie best position for the cameras etc. We could install them ourselves because we have a double garage and the house is only over one garage and set back meaning we have loft space above both garages (I had to do all the crawling into the very tight space where the roof meets the walls. It was not pleasant and I hated every minute while DH drilled holes to feed the cable through from the outside)

We bought 4 cameras, 2 at the front cover the drive, and we have a close up camera under the porch to film the front door. The last camera covers the back garden, again this is on the garage sofits.

It cost £600 for the cameras and the recording device. It records 24/7 but we can look at when the cameras are triggered. It makes me feel very safe.

We do still have the signs on the front door from the last people which tells everyone they are under electronic surveillance. If your house is at all straight fronted ie you would have to run cables through the walls, contact a company who can do it for you. We are very competent DIYers (put in bathrooms, etc)
